| tarkin06-17-05, 05:41 PM | Batman uses technology far beyond what us normal people have. Basically, all his stuff is magical. I would consider what he has to be some kind of Bracers that grant a bonus to Disarm of +4, and negate penalties to disarm while unarmed. |
| Vahenir06-17-05, 07:23 PM | I've seen the commercials - he's basically wearing dastana from Oriental Adventures, or possibly just flavourful gauntlets. The fact that he blocks attacks with them is just flavour text. If it grants a bonus to AC - you're somehow using it to deflect or block attacks. So you can count them as anything from dastana to bucklers to gauntlets. The rest is just gravy, baby. |
| Callahan06-17-05, 07:27 PM | well the blocking is the same thing as parrying in D&D, technically every weapon does that. But I can see the spikes giving some bonus to disarm(as in movie). But the sundering should not be a feature ability even though he does that in the movie :) Basically that would make them dagger like weapons that don’t require drawing and give a +2 to disarm(if you want them 'special' that is). |
| allenchan06-17-05, 08:00 PM | The rest is just gravy, baby. No, its not. I was looking for mechanics on how he uses them in combat to disarm/break things/do damage/etc |
| Vahenir06-17-05, 08:33 PM | Hey, I said straight out - I've only seen the commercials. From what I've seen - he used his forearm protection to deflect/block attacks. If he does more than that - it was your responsibility, as the OP, to make notations about what they do so that people can offer suggestions. |
| Johannixx06-18-05, 01:13 AM | He uses the fins/tines/dags/whatever on the reverse edges of the bracers to bind, disarm, and break weapons. Basically, he uses them like you would an old sword-breaker dagger. I'd say they're Exotic shields (together they grant a +1 Shield bonus to AC) that grant a +2 to Disarm checks and Sunder attack rolls for proficient users. Nonproficient users gain no AC, Disarm or Sunder benefits. |
| Vahenir06-18-05, 01:42 AM | Interesting. Sounds like prime Exotic weapon territory to me. Maybe an "Exotic Buckler" or something. |
| Tyler Do'Urden06-18-05, 05:22 AM | How about... Characters with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat gain a +1 shield bonus to AC and a +2 bonus on Disarm checks when wearing these bracers and fighting otherwise unarmed. When using the fight defensively or total defense actions, the shield bonus rises to +2. Characters without Improved Unarmed Strike gain no benefit from the bracers. The Bat Bracers can be worn over a ward cestus but not under a buckler. |
