It just hit me, how cool would a battle yoyo be?

obviously, it woudln't be spiked or else you would take damge on every return.

I guess, you could make trip and disarm attempts. it would do like 1 bludgoning damage? and could trick an opponent like a warfan?

Here's a link to a thread with a related (but by no means identical) topic:

i think it would be a cool idea and it would even be based on true events. Because in the phillipines people used them to strangle and trip from trees

I thought about it, and I would put the stats as being nearly identical to the Spiked Chain stats. ::shrug::

well the origional combat yo yo didnt return really. it was just a weighted and sharp/pointy ball or disk on the end of a cord so you could throw short distances and get it back.

Here is the write up for Cadderly's "Spindle Disk" as presented on the WotC Chosen of Denier found at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/deneir

Spindle Disk: A spindle disk is a tiny exotic melee weapon. The fist-sized sharpened crystal disk has a seam around the edge and a 3-foot cord wrapped into the seam. It is used like a yo-yo; the wielder spins the disk outward at a target, and, if it misses, it automatically winds itself up again (it can be used to make iterative attacks). If the disk hits a target, it must be wound manually (a move-equivalent action) before it can be used to attack again. A spindle disk is technically a thrown item and uses the wielder's Dexterity bonus instead of Strength for the attack roll, although it does not provoke an attack of opportunity when used. The wielder's Strength bonus applies to damage.

Cost 5 gp; damage 1d4, critical x2, weight 3 lb., type bludgeoning.

The flying guillotine is the closest thing to a historical battle yo-yo, I can think of anyway. I know of at least one other game system that has stats for such a weapon, check out google. You can find an elaborate example in the Bond flick Octopussy.

Let us know if you work up some balanced stats, someone could have a lot of fun doing very bad things with a device like that.

Yo-Yo Yoko off of Ehrgeiz... heh.
If anyone has played Ehrgeiz before, you could just imagine how cool this thing could be.
Thinking of how the yo-yo works in ehrgeiz, it would be something like this;
Maybe a ranged weapon with a max range of 25 feet and it deals 1d4 damage. If damage is dealt, it drags any small-medium sized creatures into melee with you.
