| Banatine12-21-06, 08:13 AM | has anyone made rules for how to use them in D&D? if not, this is the perfect place to start the designing process off. ive just always wanted to make them in my campaign, but have never had a rules head. magitechnology rules! :D |
| Ryu Katsuragi12-21-06, 09:46 AM | Try reading d20 Mecha. It's the best rules for mecha I've ever read. Basically, reflavour the stuff, and you've got what you need. For example, mecha is basically armour. It grants a no max Dex AC, an enhancement bonus to Strength and a penalty to to Dexterity. Large mecha grant a +4 Strength bonus, -2 Dexterity and such, and have a Hardness (based on material) which reduces damage like DR. It also grants HP based on size. Large, I think, was 100HP. So, before the pilots HP was taken, they had to 'break through' the outer shell, before they could directly hurt the pilot. |
| mvincent12-21-06, 01:00 PM | There are several (independant) mecha supplements for D&D. Personally, I just use Huge, Gargantuan or Colossal Animated Objects (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/animatedObject.htm), and treat them essentially as 'mounts' (that a PC can sit inside). |
| Darth Sephiroth12-21-06, 07:27 PM | My personal choice is the D20 Future mecha rules from the MSRD combined with THIS ARTICLE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061020a) to make it work. Takes a few choices as to how you build your mecha and how to modify it to make it fit your world though. Most of that is flavor text though. |
| Banatine12-22-06, 01:41 PM | thatnks for the help guys. i'll get D20 mecha and use that price transfer guide thingy. i'll have to find a way to watch more escaflowne, because i never quite understood how they create the guymelefs. but they are all at least huge. giant robots are cool, dragons are cool, so a giant robot that can change into a dragon is UBERCOOL! :D |
| Ryu Katsuragi12-22-06, 02:00 PM | No worries. Also, try to get one of the other d20 Future sourcebooks - I know in one of them, there is actually a 'transforming' ability you can get for your mecha, which allows it to turn from a humaniod, to some kind of animal. ;) |
| Banatine12-23-06, 01:04 PM | i've just read a bit of the mecha rules... am i right in thinking that it costs (using the price conversion chart) 32,500gp to buy the smallest mecha, before it even has any equipment? please say i am wrong, because these rules are confusing the hell out of me. (how do you work out the combined puchase DC of tons of items? (damn, this is a pain in the arse). |

The rules are in that book, not the standard d20 Mecha Compendium. |
