I don't know where the source is, but it seems like it'd be pretty tough to turn a standard bear trap into a weapon.

True but his idea is interesting. he is playing a half ogre and would like to weld a handle to the underside of the middle so that he may hold it and use it much like a palm strike. slamming it into the arms legs or head of an oppenent should do some damage plus our DM has rulled that if he can figure its stats he could use it to start a grapple. me ai prefer using the regular feats for grappling but this seems like an interesting idea so I wanted to help creat it.

I do not have the book if you remember the stats I would love to know or if not if any one could suggest the damage I would think it would be something like either 1d6 or 1d8 and continue if you struggle probably a strength 20 check or higher to pry them open but yea. Any way let me know if any one knows please let me know what it is.

This sounds like a version of the harpoon, with a modification on flavor. The harpoon might stick into an opponent on a failed Reflex save. If they fail the save, the harpoon is stuck in them, and they can be controlled with the trailing rope via opposed Str checks. Removing the harpoon inflicts equal damage unelss they make a heal check and it provokes an AoO. Casters have to make a Concentration check while the harpoon is lodged in them.

So, if you wanted to use the "bear trap on a stick", rather than a grapple mechanic, I'd say you could have them make a Reflex check or be pinched. While pinched, the guy holding the stick can try to keep them from moving with an opposed Str check. They can try to pry the trap off with a Str check, provoking an AoO, or they can sunder the stick to get free.

Halfling Footsaw Trap (Races of Faerun i believe). given the descriptor, relevant text, and the illustration, it looks like a plain vanilla bear trap.

Thank you all for the help. I have just finished working with him and he loves it. unfortunatly he has discovered that when he gets enough money he can put flesh grinding onto the weapon and wounding to which I am glad to say I am not a target. Any way thank you all and have a cookie :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :gift: :gift: :gift:

My own little houserule for a bear trap:

Bear trap
Such a trap has two metal jaws lined with sharp points. A small platform, which holds a lure, rests in between the jaws. The slightest pressure on the platform causes the jaws to snap shut, inflicting 1d8 points of damage and starting a grapple with a check of 15. The Spot DC to spot such a trap is opposed to the Survival check of the person who put it; a Search DC of 10 is required to find it.
