I can't FIND IT.

I've looked through the SRD, the 3.5 update booklet, everything online I can look at. But I can't figure out how much gold you'd give a character in a campaign starting above level 1 to buy their intial equipment with.

This pertians to a character I'd like to make level for a Level 6 Campian, scaling him down from his existing level 8 where I last played him; I wanted to take his +2 Greatsword down to just an Adamantine Greatsword, but that's an expensive item.

So, I can't figure out, should I just approach the DM and ask "Can I give him an Adamantine weapon?" or find out if he can afford it; lasdt I checked an adamantine two-handed weapon was something like 11,000 GP.

Starting gold is in the DMG, p.135.

:teach: As for a +2 adamantine greatsword, its market price is 350gp for a masterwork greatsword, 8000gp for a +2 magic bonus, and any adamantine weapon costs 3000gp extra.

8,000gp +2 magic bonus
3,000gp adamantine weapon
+ 350gp for masterwork greatsword
________
11,350gp total

The 300 gp masterwork cost is included in the 3,000 gp for the adamantine weapon, so it would cost 3,050 gp for just the adamantine sword portion.

You didnt find it in the SRD because that is not OGL, its only in the DMG (as has been stated).

You might want to consider reducing the amount listed, though, especially if a new character is coming in to a running campaign. The advantage of being able to purchase all your gear from scratch is HUGE--you can tune it to your exact level. A real PC of that level would NEVER have all his assets liquid like that, and so your existing characters will be at a disadvantage, as they'll have been playing up through the levels.

Uh, you do realize the chart already has less gold then a character whom organicly reached that level, right? They already factor in the fact that it is specially tailored.. I believe there was quite the article in Redgar's awhile back.
