On his turn, he used the Tumble skill to move half his speed away without provoking an attack of opportunity. I remember hearing somewhere on the boards that prone characters either cannot move or that you cannot use the tumble skill when prone. What I found wasn't on the boards, but on the main website, in the Rules of the Game article. I had this to say: Movement While Prone When you're lying on the ground, you can move; however, you must crawl to do so. You crawl 5 feet as a move action that provokes an attack of opportunity. So, I take that to mean you cannot tumble away. Is this correct? I don't see why the tumble skill would bypass this. |

It's certainly justifiable to argue that you could double-move a crawl (10 ft. distance) and then tumble for half that (5 ft.) to avoid the AoO. Or even fast tumble (at -10) 5 ft. while crawling. However, tumble will not allow you to exceed the normal 5 ft. speed while crawling, at least not in the core rules. Crawling rules: PH pg 142. Tumble rules: PH pg 84. Note that avoiding AoOs using tumble applies "as part of normal movement". Crawling is listed under "move" (which is normal movement), but as a special option, so it's debateable whether tumble can be applied. |
