Belt of Size Mastery Price (Item Level): 9,000 gp (10th) Body Slot: Waist Caster Level: 1st Aura: Weak; (DC 11) Transmutation Activation: Standard Weight: 1 lb. This belt enlarges or reduces the wearer at will. The effect lasts until the belt is removed, or until the effect is dismissed or dispelled. |
| Grimmoloth05-28-07, 05:35 AM | I would have to say you might want to raise the price (and caster level) or give it a limited duration. Maybe like 5 minutes. You probably should add uses per day, too. |
| Orbben_Avuna05-28-07, 06:20 AM | There's a belt in the magic item compendium thats a belt of growth, for 3000 it lets you enarge yaself for 10minutes 1/day if going by the DMG, it'd be 4000 for just the enlarging part at will, and the same for shrinking, so for both it'd be at least 8000 |

| cwslyclgh05-28-07, 12:18 PM | I am pretty sure that they should be considered multiple Different abilities... growing and shrinking are not all that similar, the mulitple similar abilities thing is generaly saved for use in things like the spells held in staff. |
| Perseus_Stoned05-28-07, 12:26 PM | I am pretty sure that they should be considered multiple Different abilities... growing and shrinking are not all that similar, the mulitple similar abilities thing is generaly saved for use in things like the spells held in staff. They're both Transmutation spells that affect a humanoid creature's size (messing with height, weight, ability scores, space reach, weapon size... but not speed). They also dispel each other, because they are direct opposites. Thats pretty damn similar to me. |
| cwslyclgh05-28-07, 12:36 PM | here is a challenge, find 1 item (that is not a staff) in the DMG that uses the multiple similar abilities rule in its pricing, no matter how "similar" the effects are. I am interested to know if there are any. |
| Knightblde05-28-07, 03:02 PM | I absolutely would say the two effects are similar. I dare say they are more similar than ANY other effects in the game. Even more so than Cure Light Wounds and Cure Moderate Wounds. In previous editions of the game, 2.0 and such, before there was a definition for size, they were in fact the same spell. Boots of the Winterland have more than one ability. As does the Cloak of the Arachnida. |
| Gadren05-29-07, 12:48 AM | Ok, there seems to be some disagreement about this, so instead of basing this strictly off the formulas in the DMG, how about thinking about the usefulness of the item and how it compares to similiarly prices items in the DMG or MIC? Would you be willing to pay more for this if you were buying this item? |
| Grimmsfeld05-29-07, 03:30 AM | They also dispel each other, because they are direct opposites. Thats pretty damn similar to me.Well, that's pretty damn stupid to me. Opposites? Similar? What? That's like saying you can make a heal/harm item at a discount because they both "effect how may hit points someone has." Or a fireball/cone of cold item because they're both evocation. If anything, being able to dispel each other should make the spells count as less similar to each other...you know...opposites and all. Either way, it's something that'd have to be closely monitiored. It really is kind of strong fro 9k. Thinking of what size changes are, they're more like situational bonuses that only apply when you need them. Like, sneaking somewhere, you're suddenly Small (or smaller,) with a total +5 or more bonus to hide. On the otherside of the spectrum, in combat, you've suddenly got a big boost to melee damage and melee capabilities. So, in that case, it's really more like two different items in that you don't usually use both of the options for the same purpose, and you don't suffer the penalties of each effect at the same time. |
| Knightblde05-29-07, 02:14 PM | I don't know where we got it from, but my group has decided that a Level 1 ring of Enlage costs 8,000gp. Based on this your item would cost 20,000gp. From the SRD: Multiple Similar Abilities For items with multiple similar abilities that don’t take up space on a character’s body use the following formula: Calculate the price of the single most costly ability, then add 75% of the value of the next most costly ability, plus one-half the value of any other abilities. This does not apply in your case. It does take up a space, it is not a staff or wand, something that you have to dig for or hold to use. Enlarge is Spell Level (1) times caster level (1) x 2,000gp x 2 for duration = 4,000gp which my group bumps to 8,000gp (I know we read this somewhere, maybe FAQ?) Reduce is Spell Level (1) times caster level (1) x 2,000gp x 2 for duration = 4,000gp which my group bumps to 8,000gp (I know we read this somewhere, maybe FAQ?) 8,000gp x 1.5 = 12,000gp + 8,000gp = 20,000gp Anyway, that is just how we would do it. RAW would be 4,000gp x 1.5 = 6,000gp + 4,000gp = 10,000gp Happy Gaming! |
