| verdynian06-25-06, 01:46 AM | Okay, I am curious. What is the best, non-magical light armor available with the highest possible AC bonus and allowing a dexterity modifier of +8 or higher? Please, cite what it is, why you think it fits, and the source of this wonderfind. :) I know magic can modify this, as can mithril armor, but I really can't see a magical set of mithril studded leather +2, if you know what I mean. ;) |
| Jon of the North06-25-06, 02:02 AM | OK, I'm going to just assume you're one of them turbo running punks who Kup will straighten out yet. So forgive my slight bursts of sarcasm, but I'm having trouble taking this seriously. Did you look at all? The best armor, that I'm aware of, for someone who wants to get the full benefit of +8 dex (What are you playing, a teenage pixie gymnist?) is Padded, from the freaking Player's Handbook. If you want to make it magical you have to get it MW, which is annoying since you'll get no benefit for 31x the cost. On the plus side, most enemies should just assume you're a cheap hireling. If you want something...respectable, mirthral chain shirt will allow +7 Dex and more AC. I'd go this route. |
| verdynian06-25-06, 02:49 AM | Yes. I did look. But I was thinking of outside of the PHB. I remember something from RotW by the name of leafweave, but since I do not possess the book, I cannot really look it up. :) I am curious what it was, and if anyone knew of anything else without prestige-classing it, or picking up numerous armor specialization feats. If you are curious, yes. I am playing a Pixie from Savage Species. Monster-levelling it. BTW, nice Transformers reference, and an amusing plus side. :) |
| Dragonsblood06-25-06, 03:14 AM | Bracers of Armor - no limit to your dex. |
| Rolof06-25-06, 03:35 AM | Best thing I know of is spidersilk armor from the Underdark book; +3 AC, 8 max dex, -1 ACP. (Hope I didn't violate the terms of use there, but I didn't give ALL the stats, such as arcane failure and whatnot, so I think it's ok.) Your biggest problem will be obtaining it... not to mention the fact that the Elves in the forest your Pixie lives in will probably know it's made by Drow and think poorly of you for it. Here's a useful link, you can look over many armor stats: http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/armor.pl?all |
| Mentalmegabody06-25-06, 04:19 AM | Hmmm... Celestial Armor: This bright silver or gold +3 chainmail is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing without betraying its presence. It has a maximum Dexterity bonus of +8, an armor check penalty of –2, and an arcane spell failure chance of 15%. It is considered light armor, weighs 20 pounds, and it allows the wearer to use fly on command (as the spell) once per day. Faint transmutation [good]; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, creator must be good, fly; Price 22,400 gp; Cost 12,550 gp + 1,004 XP. That's about the best I came up with. There might be, however, even better armour in other source books, this is from DMG. Sry, I was lazy ( I have most of D&D and D20 Source books on .pdf, but there are just too many, and I'm just too tired right now :P) |
| Mentalmegabody06-25-06, 04:23 AM | Bracers of Armor - no limit to your dex. Those would be nice. If you are playing an archer type you might want to use the bracer slots for: Bracers of Archery, Greater: These wristbands look like normal protective wear. The bracers empower the wearer to use any bow (not including crossbows) as if she were proficient in its use. If she already has proficiency with any type of bow, she gains a +2 competence bonus on attack rolls and a +1 competence bonus on damage rolls whenever using that type of bow. Both bracers must be worn for the magic to be effective. Moderate transmutation; CL 8th; Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Magic Arms and Armor; Price 25,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. |
| dokesa06-25-06, 08:24 AM | Shadow Silk Leather is +2 +8 and the Gnome Twist Cloth has no dexterity limit. |
| Jherid06-25-06, 12:38 PM | Thistledown (RotW) Padded Armor +1 AC +10 Max Dex |
| verdynian06-25-06, 02:15 PM | . . some really good options there! :) No need to apologize mentalmegabody. I appreciate the effort. Thanks bunches, Rolof, for the link. It's wonderful! :) I'd completely forgotten about the gnome twist cloth, Dokesa. Ya gotta love armor that protects against touch attacks! :) Since mass amounts of money may be a problem, trying to avoid magical eq like bracers, but thank you Dragonsblood. :) Figured I would just try to acquire some cool armor, and upgrade it magically as the campaign progresses as needed. |
| Dheran06-26-06, 03:28 AM | If you want protection against touch attacks it'll cost you a feat: If you have the Exotic Armor Proficiency (Gnome Twist Cloth) feat, the armor bonus from gnome twist cloth, including any enhancement bonus to AC, protects against touch attacks. |
| verdynian06-26-06, 05:00 AM | . . bugger. Silly feat restrictions. :( |
