I'm sure this has already been asked before, so i'm very sorry if you guys are all tired of such a question...

If i have a character with a high dex what are the best kinds of armour for him/her if i want to keep light armour status (to keep full movement speed)

so if i have a dex modifier of +5,+6,+7 or even +8 what is the best thing to go for in each case?

Thanks very much for any help in advance :)

The list
Silk Armor +3AC +8 Max dex Skill check pen -1
Gnome Twist Cloth (Exotic) +1AC No Max dex
Leafweave Leather +2AC +7Max dex
Pretty much all things mithril

If you want more information, basically all the armors in the back of Races of the Wild gives you higher maximum dexterities

Celestial armour from the DMG...I have no idea how to replicate it though, since its benefits outstrip even those of thistledown mithril breastplates...

Nightscale armor from Underdark, +2AC and a max of 10Dex allowed. If you wanna go nuts you can make it out of Shadowsilk for a ekstra +2 to Dex.

Mithral chain shirt +5 with Nimbleness is a 9 ac with a max dex of 8 (+2 mithral, +2 Nimbleness) it also has no arcane spell failure or check penalty if I'm not mistaken.

Um... Bracers of Armor?

Wis bonus to AC: Monk, Ninja
Cha bonus to AC: Battledancer

No armor, no dex penalties. :)

Precludes armor & shields, but allows bracers and other magical/psionic toys.

For arcane types, not wanting to go into one of the PrCs that allow armor - to one degree or another (e.g. Arcane Hieromancer) - these are often a good route to boost AC (although your caster level takes a hit (or two))

Cha bonus to AC: Battledancer

Also, the mystic wanderer prestige class.

Gnome Twist Cloth (Exotic) +1AC No Max dex
Leafweave Leather +2AC +7Max dex

Silk armor +5 of Nibleness gives +8 to AC, and allows +10 more from Dex.
Gnome Twist +5 gives +6 to AC, no limits to Dex.
Leafweave Leather +5 of Nimbleness gives +7 to AC, and allows a +9 more from Dex.

The old, plain Bracers of Armor +8 give also +8 to AC, and no max dex. So they are better than silk armor if dex is over 30, which is possible for a level 20 elf or halfling. They cost 64,000 gold, though (while the silk armor up there costs about 50k).

Nightscale armor from Underdark, +2AC and a max of 10Dex allowed. If you wanna go nuts you can make it out of Shadowsilk for a ekstra +2 to Dex.

also add in nimbleness enchantment for a grand total of +14 max dex it also has lots of other neat benifits

Mithral Breastplates are pretty good.

Where can I find the stats for these things? And does it count as light armor?

Where can I find the stats for these things? The stats for Breastplates are in the PHB, and an explanation of how Mithral modifies these stats is in the DMG.

And does it count as light armor?Yes, for purposes of "movement and other limitations."

Basically it reduces the weight, ASF and ACP, and raises the Max Dex to AC.

In the module "Temple of the Frog" recently released for free download on the wotc website, there is some sort of cyber-armour which gives +10AC, max dex+8, at only 9000gp. And I think it is light armour?

Um... Bracers of Armor?

Ya he's right Increase your dex even more and get +8 Bracer of armor. It's the only way to reach the highest AC possible.

Bracers only go to +8 Armor Bonus pre-epic or +13 with special properties if using that optional rule.

Just an aside for those who toss in the nimbleness armor enhancement. MIC has it listed as increasing max dex by 1 and reducing armor check penalty by 2. I'm not sure if the MIC errata changed it or not.
