What is your favorite impact, bone-breaking wepon and why?

I quite like the concet of a character wielding a mighty hammer. When you have one, every enemy does look like a nail.

However, the Greatclub seems a bit..blah. Unsophisticated, and mechanically unattractive.

What other choices can be found out there?

My mits. they're always there for me and don't make fun of me like the other bludgeoning weapons

fun bludgeoning weapon is the goliath greathammer.
goliaths can wield large weapons so it can deal 3d6 damage witha X4 crit. Also get +2 on attack rolls to sunder weapons or shields.

I always liked the plain ole gauntlet, or the morning star.

I had a character that 2handed a morning star before.

That was an interesting one...

Was a hideousblowing warlock. Level 3, took 3 sessions to get to that level.

1d8+2d6+4.

Not bad for a level 3.

Costs a feat, thought...but damn, a Critical with that weapon can easily define the outcome of even a nasty encounter.

Personally I like warmaces. D12 damage, X2 crit, though you do have to take -1 to AC. It's major advantage though is it counts as a martial weapon if used two handed (like a bastard sword). And of course if you have powerful build or the like... 3d6 damage at large size.

It's an even race between the quarterstaff and the maul for me.

What book does the Maul appear in?

I'd have to go with the heavy flail. Decent damage & crit, plus you can trip and disarm with it, too.

Goliath greathammer FTW!

Try the misprinted version from MM IV, page 101. It's 19-20/x4, and as far as I know there's been no official errata. If your DM allows this, he deserves whatever he gets.

What about the quarterstaff? I know it's not that mechanically powerful, but there's a reason it's almost cliche. It's just cool!

And practical, to boot.

Talenta Boomerang from Eberron Campaign Setting.

Some day I hope to have one actually come back to me. Of course, first I'd have to miss with it. :)
I probably should just go with the javelin instead, but the boomerang just adds more character. And I'm sticking with nothing but Talenta weapons for that char.

The simple Morningstar.

It's cheap, light weight, does decent enough damage, and also takes care of my piercing weapon need.

Complete Warrior I believe. Don't feel like looking right now. Despite the ruling that it can be used one handed as an exotic weapon I think that's stupid. No normal person should be able to swing a 20lb rock on a sick with one hand. I'd always use it two handed as a martial weapon.

The mighty Sling!

Seriously though, I like to use Elvencraft Longbows to bludgeon unsuspecting foes to death.

Heavy Flail. If not that then the quarterstaff.

Improved Unarmed Strike and Superior Unarmed Strike. Second highest base damage in the game (next to a 20th-level monk's unarmed strike), useable with Weapon Finesse, Power Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting, can't be disarmed, can't be sundered... if only they could be thrown.

Bat. Preferably aluminum, with a nice rubber grip :)

Splitting ax/hammer combo. Just SO practical for things other than combat, too!

Ball on chain attached to large stick. Most of the time, chain should be shorted than the stick, but I've played with a (historically short-lived) cavalry version designed for whacking people with shields (and small buildings) with a three foot handle and eight foot cord. I don't think I've ever used any hand held melee weapon that could deliver as much pure energy as that beast!
(Although, it saddens me to say, I've never done jousting, so I can't actually compare to a lance)

Oh, wait, you meant D&D weapons!

I tend towards things other than pure damage in game. Quarterstaff for it's utility, and ability to be carried in town. 2-H Axe/Hammer combos for building fires, putting up tents, and general carpentry. 1-H Hammer/Axe combo for blacksmith stuff, as well as hooking shields. Mauls, clubs? Too one-purpose, and gets people looking at you suspiciously.

If a player wants this, they get what they want too. Enemies using a 19-20/x4 weapon on their butts. ;)

Generally, I like the Maul or Goliath Greathammer depending on whether I'm going for a 1 handed bludgeoning weapon or 2 handed bludgeoning weapon.

A player of mine put the greatclub to good use with a barbarian/druid using the Spikes/Brambles spell. That was a pain in the butt to deal with until the SC nerfed Brambles and Spikes.

I also like the warmace. 2d6, x2, -1 AC, 1 handed, and a feat. With a lineant DM and the Arms & Equipment guide you could make one 3d6, x2, -1 AC, 2 handed with a feat. Plus the picture make it looks awesome.

Fists are always cool, but I like Great clubs

Since it reminds of Hercules club and it has a awesome
Weapon Style, three mountains.

I think the Great Hammer is stupid and cheap a weapon that
should never exist, especially the one in MM4
