I have a tiefling with an ablility score of 20 in dexterity (18 on the roll and +2 bonus from race). I was wondering what is probably the best combination of weapons (plan on TWF) that are finnesable to use.

Right now I was thinking of a Dagger(piercing/slashing) rapier(piercing) combination, but I would be screwed against a monster that has DR/piercing. Any other good weapon combinations for this tiefling rogue?

You might want to look at the Elven Weapons which are improved versions of the Rapier but they might not fit your character concept some are in Complete Warrior and some are in Races of the Wild btw.

To use the Elven weapons require the use of a feat since they are exotic weapons.

A better way to go would be rapier/short sword or just dual short swords.

if you don't mind piercing only dual elven lightblades are 1d6 dmg 18-20 crit. You would need exotic weap proficiency but feats like improved crit and the like will affect both of your weapons, and they are both light weapons.

If you're worried about piercing being a liability, you could consider going into the dervish prc. It allows you to wield scimitars as light weapons, which means they are both dual wieldable and finessable. It has the same stats as the rapier with the exception of being a slashing weapon. Not to mention that the Dervish prc has its own benefits.

hhhhh. I personally like the elven court blade, finessable, power attackable and two types of possible damage.

Dual short-swords is a good choice. Saves a lot of feats because they're regular weapons and they're the same weapon. As for the more exotic stuff, I'm not well-versed, but pairs are usually a good idea.

A rogue?

Well, you're going to be looking after many, many feats. Don't go exotic. Go with a pair of Shortswords or Daggers. A staff is good, too, and one's doubtless that a 5-foot long probe is a good thing to keep around.

I agree with Eikre. Don't blow a lot of feats on your weapons. If you are playing a rogue, you don't get many. However, if your playing an elf or half-elf, you can get all those wonderful elven finessable weapons with one feat- the name escapes me and i don't have my books handy, but it can be found in Complete Warrior.

It wouldn't work I don't think, Imp Weapon Familiarity makes them martial but a one level dip into fighters might be worth it.

Yea, i would advise going for a pair of normal weapons for a TWF rogue - you don't get many feats, and TWF itself can take a few feats, not to mention all the other feats that are nice to have. I'd take the rapier as my main weapon - its weapon finesse-able, and slightly better than the short sword (by 1 point of crit range). For secondary weapons, i would grab a simple weapon that does bludgeoning, and a simple weapon that does slashing.

If you want something a little out there, i.e. exotic, i don't think there is any really suitable weapons - iirc, double weapons aren't valid options for weapon finesse. If you didn't mind dropping the TWF and taking up THF, then spiked chain is an all round good option.

If you do go with a spiked chain, a dip into Exotic Weapon Master is really worth it for the 'flurry' ability. The class might be worth it if you TWF with two light exotic weapons as well, for the ability that lets you reduce your TWF penalties by 1.

Going with a pair of daggers or short swords would probably be better, though. (Daggers might be more useful, despite the low damage, since you can do two types of damage with them and you can throw them in a pinch).

I would gain a level or two in a class with martial weapon proficiency, and go dual Cutlasses (dragon 318, dungeon 111, the original 3.0 version is in forgotten realms campaign setting. its pretty easy to convert to the updated versions..) woohoo piercing and slashing at the same time!

Yea, weapons that grant multiple types are good.

If you want to do a twf baddy, take a 2 level dip into fighter, and then take the Tempest prestige class (Complete Adventurer). You can then eliminate all your penalties for fighting with two weapons AND apply any feats you have for one weapon to BOTH weapons (focus, specialization, improved crit, etc).

For selection, I'd take a rapier and a kukri. That way, when you take Improved crit (rapier or kukri), you can threaten a crit on a 15-20 with BOTH weapons.

If you don't want to take levels in Tempest, then I'd go with two rapiers. One medium and one small...

In actuality, though, I'd go for a rogue with two levels of fighter using a spiked chain. It's the best finesse weapon in the game.

Too bad you can't go into the Blade of Valenar PrC, but the Double Scimitar (Eberron) is pretty good.

Wow. Thats some really bad advice... The Tempest Prestige class is generally considered a very weak class. You can take improved crit (rapier) or improved crit (kukri), but its two feats to do both -- so you are better off taking improved crit (kukri), as both of those are small. An inappropriately sized rapier wouldnt count as a light weapon. You would still have the penalty for not using a light weapon in the off hand, and also a penalty for using an inappropriately sized weapon...

Don't forget, tieflings are automatically proficient with all martial weapons, since they are outsiders.

Rapier/kukri would be a good combination, you could pick up Telling Blow tool.

Why not be a Lesser Tiefling? Much less of a hassle... the LA really makes Tieflings kinda weak!

I have noticed that a Feycrafted bastard sword, with the Exotic Weapon Feat is a light weapon, thus finesse-able. Two Feycraft, bastard swords would be neat, even if its only slashing damage.

Feycraft? Ugh...

thats really really really really weak. Feycraft makes things sooo much *worse*...

Just get an Elven Courtblade...

and WHY are people so obsessed about getting two of the biggest weapons possible in both hands for two weapon fighting?!

ARGH. Thats not how you do lots of damage people.

You do lots of damage with two weapon fighting by getting thinks like Sneak Attack!

There is something to be said about the neat-o factor.

From the monster manual:

Outsider Type
...
Traits
...
Proficient with all simple and martial weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry.

I agree they wouldn't be worth the +1 LA without this, and with it they are certainly unbalanced at LA 0.

that's bloody uber! so like a player that is a tiefling is proficient with martial weapons ? or not as they are a native outsider (im thinking faerun here!)

sorry if this is a little OT too !

I would have to say the Sun Blade. Wield it as a bastard sword AND a short sword? At the same time? HELLS YEAH!
For normal weapons, spiked chain and those elven finessable weapons are the best. If you don't want to spend feats for proficiency, just go with shortswords, rapiers, or daggers.
Arcturion

07-25-07, 11:57 AM
Isn't the sun blade treated as a short sword for ease of use (light weapon and all the pros and cons that come with it; including penalties to make and resist disarm and sunder attempts, and can't be used with Power Attack and deals no additional damage when wielded two-handed, but does qualify for Weapon Finesse and is usable during grapples) but deals bastard sword (slashing, not piercing) damage? One of those neato weapons with poorly worded and confusing text. Though a feycraft sun blade synergizes with itself very well (character not having to waste a feat on Weapon Finesse).

Natural attacks are the best....u get the improved natural attack feat, or its equivalent from Book of the nine swords and u dish out lots of damage. You are never unarmed. If not a monk, pick up the Unarmed strike feat. You can also take a feat from stormwrack that makes Bludjeonic attacks also count for piercing (can't recall the name....sry).You are complete.
If u wanna stick with a weapon, pick up a level in Samurai class from Oriental Adventures and then continue with iaijutsu master levels ,with a katana of course.
Have fun
