My friends really liked it when I did a epic battle where 100 guys invade a castle full of 50 guys. Gotta make it kind of like helms deep where they bash the door and storm in and the fighters have to try to hold them off. Very fun if you are able to do it right. That was all they were talking about for weeks and how catapults land right next to them.blah blah blah

The most fun that I have ever had in a battle was when I put my PC's through a portal that turned the happy-holy church they were in into a black-death hell's church. They ended up having to fight a lvl 7 barbarian and two of his hell hounds on a thin granite catwalk over a pit of lava while a pyro-hydra launched fireballs at them. It wasn't the hardest battle they had encountered at their level, but the scenerey and craziness really made it enjoyable.

Also, fighting on top of a runaway stagecoach in the dark is always fun. Tree branches flying by, dark, stormy, bumpy ride, etc. The wizard cast light on the paladin's sword and everytime he would score a killing hit the light would go out for a second, and people would fall off of the stagecoach at times, and the druid was trying to steer the horses onto a safe path. It was a lot of fun when the barbarian lost his greatclub to a treebranch that nearly decapitated the paladin. And the whole time, the wizard was inside of the stagecoach (for lack of room on the roof) trying to calm down the other passangers, who were histerical and screaming. Sounds dramatic but this was at first level... You don't have to have a difficult battle to make it exciting...

Hope these help... I have a thousand more if you want to hear them ever...

my favourite was when my character was level 8 fighter, had great cleave, oversized two weapon fighting and two weapon fighting, imroved initiative, power crit, weapon focus: bastard sword and managed to buy a balanced large bastard sword, an impact bastard sword and a ring of keen.

i first flicked my three throwing axes at them

i had then had the large bastard sword in my off hand, and "the impactor" in the primary.

ran into a room with about 40 orcs, and i turned around and told the others to pull up a chair (they had only seen me using a falchion at this point, he was about to show off!)

i carved my way through 19 of them in one round. if i wasnt hitting a critical (13-20/x2 with impact) i was dealing +9 damage of 1d10 and 2d8, then cutting the next, and next, and next, and next, and by the 3rd round there were 10 left.

i had a few hits, so i swapped for my two shortswords of 3rd level caster spells (i cant remember the spell i discharged, it deals 1d6+something and drains the same amount) so i was then a bit healthier and swapped back for my bastard swords and carved the rest.

meanwhile, my other party members were getting potions out of the bottomless bag and making sure they had enough for the next battle.....

i alsodropped a dragon in that dungeon (meduim blue) in no more than 3 rounds, 2 impact bastard swords dealing [13-20] crit all the time allows for 6d10+[3xstrength] most hits

I had a player who, using the same dice that typically get him around ten natural 1s a night, got quite a few natural 20s in short order. When all was said and done, he's the only one to have a PC in his boxers defeat 3 soldiers armed with automatic rifles. His improvised weapons consisted of a nearby computer tower and accompanying monitor. -_-;; He didn't get away unscathed, but once he had the guns it just didn't matter.

The entire group agrees. It was the most unlikely and coolest thing we've ever witnessed. Since then his dice have been hateful, but we all remember that night.

And this one time at band camp...

err...

Well once I played a psionic telepath, with insanly high bluff and diplomacy. The rest of the party were all in some way worshippers of good deities and both the paladin and the cleric were worshippers of Bahamut, the greates of the good gods in this campaignworld. My character didn't really worship any gods and didn't know much about religion.

Then one day when we were all around 9th - 11th lvl we stumbled upon a green dragons lair (cant remember the age of the dragon, but it was big ;)).

We were sneaking around the grotto and suddenly the reality that this was a dragons lair became very clear to us, as it stuck its head out of the shadows and spoke.

Well as the most charsimatic and wellspoken person in the party I stepped forward to talk to the dragon and speak some sense into him I guess :D

Well trouble was with my lack of knowledge of both dragons and religion I while my comrades where slowly backing off, getting closer to the treasurehoarde in the back of the grotto, was trying to convince the dragon that the great dragon king Kraxus was trying to assemble a large army in the south and that he wanted him [the green dragon] to join them and that we were his delegates [of Kraxus] that travelled around to gather the few dragons left, even though as said before the whole party was displaying badges, banners, tabbards, swordpummels etc. with all the goodie goodie gods symbols on them...

I rolled a natural 20 on my bluff check.

Didn't help at all!

The dragon nonchalantly put its lips together to form a very little 'o' and squirted a thin line of acidic vile right in my face. You know how many hit points telepaths get, right? Thats right! Not much, and even if I made my save I would have been dead many times over (i was the lowest lvl char in the group).

After disposing of the dragon my party scooped up my leftovers, including an eyeball, and put it in a jar for later resurrection... But alas, that day never came!

It was fun "fight" though...

------

Another time with the same party, I was playing a cleric of the sungod Solon. We had been following another adventuring party all evil and chaotic, serving the evildoers of that world. We had tracked them down, to this cave, where we attacked them.

The fight went on for some rounds and I finally got a hold person spell off on their dwarven barbarian. It was my last hold person spell, he had saved against the two other hold spells.

After the dwarf was out of the game their ranger/rogue fled and left the rest to die at our hands. The fight was definately in our favor now. When all but the held dwarf was dead or dying, the party closed in around the poor little dwarf. standing in a circle around him grinning.

The cleric of bahamut, who used a twohanded sword stepped up to the dwarf and lightly rested the tip of the sword on the shoulder of the dwarf, as if to measure just where the final cut should be made. If desperation can be seen on a face which muscles have been paralyzed, this time was it. The cleric of bahamut swung his mighty sword with all his strength, with all the will and lust to take this evil childmolesting dwarfs head off in one nice cut (coupe de grace)... But Alas!

The DM rolled the save against death openly for all to see, and when the die slowly stopped swirling, it landed on 20.

Just imagining how it must have looked in reality made us all laugh. The dwarf withstood a clean cut to the throat. It just hammered the fact into our characters minds that this little barbarian was not to mess around with or in the words of Turkish from "Snatch": "...Which pratically made him tougher than a coffinnail"

But the hold person spell still lasted another round and with that last swing of his trusty zweihänder the cleric of Bahamut chopped off the head of mr. "I-AM-INVINCIBLE!"

That was a cool fight...

2nd edition but the story is all that matters.

The Main Campaign bad guy and forcess are seiging highmoon. After felling about half a dosen Giants and scores of orcs at the hands of the 7th to 9th level characters the Green Dragon Shows up blowing his breath weapon on our forces (and thiers as well.) Having prepared for this my ranger ran to the top of the tower of Highmoon where he had prepared several sailing ropes in a noose and our team leader stood below taunting him. As predicted (due to previous history) the Dragon Charged the party leader who hit him with a fireball just before my ranger dropped the noose around it's neck. The dragon pulled the noose taught and swung right into the tower knocking it down. The ranger and his wife were still at the top! After several amazing dex checks they took minimal damage and got all high and mighty when they looked at the rubble only to have the dragon pop out and attack. The dragon was still on his back so the ranger got on top of the dragons belly and drove both his swords into his gut. The dragon started rolling and the ranger pulled off yet another amazing dex check and log rolled the dragon as it took several more shots from the rest of the party. That part I'll never forget! Log rolling the Dragon! Well the dragon got up and took off with the ranger's wive hanging onto it's shoulder at the wings driving a shortsword in it's back with the old backstab rules. After a Flurry of Arrows and spells the finally shot was deliverd by our bard with a single magic missle! The dragon came crashing down the rangers wife was near death but made it. Then the main bad guy shows up! Thank GOD we didn't actually have to fight him and our elven archer showed the thousand year old lich why his malice was misguided (very long story.)

Anyway for me it's all about log rolling the dragon easily the most memorable moment of my 17+ year D&D carrer. Yeah it was lower level than some, but by far the most fun which is the whole point. it wasn't just that we had good close fights and winning aginst superior forces we actually had reoccuring villians! Part good escape plans by the DM (as any good villian should have) and part dumb luck we had a lot of bad guys in that fight we had history with and put an end to it. Except the two demons (almost as memorable with theodocius making a deal with one of them) but we never did finish buisness with them.

The fight I remember the best was when I first started an eberron campaign with my players. They were hired by house kundarak to protect a huge stockpile of cash on a lightning rail. A number of valenar elves rode up behind the train and the PCs let loose with a rain of bolts from the mounted repeating crossbows on top of their traincart. They hit afew of them, but lost line of sight as the elves got onboard the caboose on the back.

The PCs head to the back of the train and square off against a group of elves both on top and within the cart. They start fighting, the people on top of the cart constantly rolling balance checks to avoid plummeting to their death, grease spells being cast around. The PCs eventually defeat those elves and start racing to the front as they realize a few of the elves had boarded further up the lightning rail. They run back towards their cart and barely stop the leader of the elves from unhooking the last half of the train with them on it.

I need to pull out more battles like that :P.

2nd Edition: I was playing a CG dwarven fighter/cleric of Tempus. We had earned the hatred of a lich through out our adventures. Unknown to us we had foiled several of his plans while helping serveral villages around the area. He had almost killed my character three times two via minions, the other was when we caught him stealing children (demented DM). We found his lair and killed almost all of his minions before he was aware of us. When the four of us faced off against him he dropped a prismatic wall around himself. Well being a dwarf, annoyed with him possibly getting away and wanting my revenge I charged through the prismatic wall. I had the spell entropy shield up (love that 50% chance to ignore any spell) and ran through. The DM ruled I had to save/roll against all seven layers of the wall. The layers I failed (stone and other plane) my spell protected me against. The DM gave me a surprise round so I healed myself. It was close but I ended up killing the lich thanks to the entropy shield spell. The group thought I was dead (the DM and I left to run my fight and I came back looking angry) but started cracking up when prismatic wall dropped. I was sitting on the lich's throne with his skill in my hand. We soon found his little jar and made sure he never came back. It was pure luck I survived that instance, I rolled really well and the DM didn't.

3.0 Edition: We were playing in FR and our character's origins were scattered through out the realm. After many levels one of our character had to return home to take his father's place in ruling the clan. During the many fights that followed (we found out two Shades were trying to amass an army to return to power) we won a Ring of Spellbattle. I know the DM didn't want us to have it but out of pure luck we killed the bad guy who had it (we saw it used on us) and we won the prize. Two or three sessions later our main tank died but so did a main bad guy in the same fight. Well we didn't have the components for a ressurect so we stuck him in a bag of holding and followed the bad guys back to their base (our crazy halfling rogue's idea). Due to some insanely lucky rolls by the group (and a nice DM) we were able to sneak into their base, get close to the priest about to cast ressurect and steal the spell and apply it to our dead barbarian. He came back to life and we proceeded to lay waste to their hideout.

3.5 Edition: Their haven't been many good and fun fights because most of them have been low level games or modules. The best time had to be when we were trying to protect a village against some invading orcs. We found out that their were actually two tribes working together. Our halfling rogue convinced one orc cheiftan that the other orc chieftan was planning to kill him. The rogue had such a high bluff skill that all the orcs actually believed this off the wall plan. We got the two sides to fight and then finished off the survivors. The DM was so flustered because he wanted this big long fight to make us look like heros (which none of us wanted).

I would say that it was when all my 5-players group were archers....from the horizon came about 70 orcs and we started to shot as soon as they were in reach.....it was awesome, none of the orcs hitted us!

My favorite battle actually wasn't in a DnD game, but in a Star Wars D20 game...

So here we are, thinking we are talking with rebel forces while also hurrying to refuel our ship (we knew we were going to be interupted very soon), when it turns out the imperials had already grabbed ahold of that location and ambushed us.. we couldn't leave, we have to refuel to get out of the starsystem, so when one of our guys gets hit (ie, his WP went down, out of VP) he runs back up the ramp of the ship and tries to over ride the safties limiting how fast the ship can refuel. Natural 1 on an untrained skill check... tries to stop it, gets another natural 1.. (i'm glad the ship didn't blow up!)

back outside the ship, fuel starts spilling from the overflow, while sparks start flying from the electrical conduit recharging energy systems. So whiel still exchanging fire, a couple of our people had to do their best to shut down the over flow of fuel.

Eventually, we win, and barely escape (though there's more to it than that) but we were on the edge of our seats wondering if we were going to survive our blow ourselves up...

I need some ideas to make combat in my campaign a bit more enjoyable. Post the greatest battles youve seen or ever been involved in.

I enjoyed running a orc horde encounter versus my PCs. The party was held up in a abandoned monk monestary. The wooden walls had to be chopped through by the orcs before they could attack the PCs. The PCs barracaded the front entrance and dug a pit.

The orcs were first level Barbarians mostly, but I added about 6 4th level ones and placed them in the front. When the area effect spells came out, the Raging Barbarians took the damage and kept coming. This paniced the PCs into believing all the orcs were that tough. Even so, the low level orcs had a good chance of hitting the PCs.. (I believe the starting attack bonus was 1 bab, +5 str, +1 masterwork battle axe, +4 while Raging

In the back, I had the "leaders", an orc sorcerer, orc cleric, and a high level orc Barbarian.

The carnage was vast and gruesome. All the party members were badly wounded.

My greatest battle is a tie between two incidents. I'll tell both of them to you.

One was when I was playing Warhammer RPG with my friends. I had the Dwarf Trollslayer, and we were fighting hoardes of goblins. We cleaved through the goblins, and we were all almost dead. Then I had to face the Goblin's shaman! Me, a first level trollslayer, against the chief of all the goblins in the area! It was an epic struggle. I'd roll to hit. MiSS! He'd roll to hit. MISS! Then we kept trading blows, knocking each other down, almost killing each other. Even when hits were scored, they would only do dismemberments, maiming... but we were both still alive... when all the sudden I managed to chop off his head, take his magic serrated shortsword, and raise it up in the air for all the Goblins to see.

They panicked like little gobbo schoolgirls!

The second fight took place a couple of weeks ago, at a D&D tournament that my local game shop was sponsoring. It was a two day event, and it was wild! The first day wasn't anything special. Just a bunch of of spell lobbing, a few sporatic fights, until the end of the day. My group of three (a druid, a rogue and myself, a ranger) were fighting a rival group (a druid, a cleric and a wizard). We were severly outmatched in spells, and our druid was being a putz. He decided to charge in in wildform shape... nevermind the fact that he would have to squeeze through the door to make it work. Long story short... it didn't. He was knocked into the negatives by a fireball spell.

The next day, we resumed the game. The druid was unconcious, I was the only one with a potion (the rogue was closer, but wasn't packing... the idiot!). I was two turns away. So I ran to him, drew the potion, and the next turn I was ready to shove it down the druid's throat. The person playing the druid had to leave, so we had a replacement player come in. He was looking forward to playing.

FIREBALL!

The enemy team dropped a fireball right on top of our druid! It roasted his body beyond repair. I manage to barely roll out of the way with evasion! It was SCARY! But what struck me most of all was that this team was out to win in this tournament. They wanted to win at all costs, even at the expense of chivalry. They didn't even let the replacement player have a chance! That struck on my sensibilities deeply, and I knew from that point on I had to make that team pay.

The rogue gave up right there and then, so I struck out on my own. I knew my team of misfits wouldn't win, so I decided to do as much damage as I could, especially to the team that offended me! So I snuck around all rangerlike, found a place to hide, and waited.

An event triggered on the game map. All the sudden, the main room had an objective, and everyone was going after it, including the bad team. I waited... the mage that fireballed my friend and I passed by. He rolled to spot me... and failed! I popped out of hiding and gave that damned mage three arrows worth of hurting.

Just to put it in perspective, the bow had fire and frost. My arrows had lightning. It also allowed +2 str bonus. When I rolled the dice and added it up, it was a hell of alot of hurt! The mage turned invisible and ran like hell!

The tournament was about to end. The last phase was starting. The enemy team I didn't like so much was winning. Though I hurt the mage bad and we did alot of damage in our previous skirmishes, they had high level scrolls and were in good shape. They were in first place. My team was in last. My team's rogue surprisingly survived. The enemy team was wasting everyone in the centre room... save me, whom though I hurt the enemy badly, they thought I would be no threat and therefore ignored my team to fight the others.

The only one left to attack was their druid. It was in wildshape, and it had alot of hit points. Its crocodile animal companion couldn't attack me (though it tried). I had only one target and it was the druid. I had to shoot. I decided to try.

The first shot... HIT! I rolled maximum damage on all my dice. The druid balked, but held on.

The second shot... HIT! It wasn't as much, but did give the druid some pause.

Then the third shot came (i used rapid shot, btw). The druid and his team finally admitted that even though I did a buttload of damage to them, i couldn't possibly kill the druid. It just had too many hit points. The only way I could kill it was a critical hit.

So I rolled the dice.

Natural 20. Everybody's jaws dropped. I rolled the damage dice.

I dropped the druid to -10. He died! I instantly dropped the enemy team, the one who so ignobly dropped a fireball on our replacement player before he had the chance to play... dropped from first place to THIRD! My revenge was complete!

As a result, I got the tournament's MVP award, just for that shot. It won me a set of pewter dice... the same brand and type I used to score that critical hit! They let me trade for a different prize, so I took two sets of expensive Chessex poly's.

I think the best battle I had was when Kiev 16 Barbarian and Ront 16 Fighter, fough their way through a Frost Giant Fortress. I used alot of the stuff from Frostburn the Snow Goblins which were all 3rd level Fighters and Barbarians. They were the first to be fought, a bunch of them asleep around two alarms. We were slaughtering them until the woke up and then it was hurling random objects to knock down the buggers before they hit the alarm.

But, strangely enough one goblin that failed the listen check while being asleeps wakes up and springs the alarm.

Frost Giants begin thundering down the halls. Ront and Kiev are forced to dart between pillars. One standing in the haul taunting a giant and then another hits it from behind. But, eventually that fails when the Winterwolves and Frost Giant Spirit Speaker's come in.

Well, half-way through their hit points they chase the last Spiritspeaker through a flight of stairs winding through jagged shards of mirror like iceshards. When we finally get to the top the Spirit Speaker is killed by an Enraged Frostgiant Blackguard with two large sized Longswords and a black adamantine set of Fullplate. In addition, there were two Frost Giant Fighters to team up with the Blackguard.

Kiev ends up sunder one sword of the Blackguard (thankfully with a failed attack of oppurtunity.). Ront ends up using his Kossuth's Gem Eye to cast a Fireball of Divine flame into the structure. Burning the Blackguards and causing the ice to melt. The floor begins to give way as Kiev and Ront fighting the Blackguard after the two other Frost Giant fall away into the Cold seas below. Kiev gets knocked acrossed the room into a melting pillar he has about 23 health. The Frost Giant knocks Ront down and he's pinned when the icebuckles. Kiev gets up and runs Bullrushing the Frost Giant. Kiev gets a natural 20 and succeeds on the Strength check. Both Blackguard and Kiev go toppling over the edge in an avalanche of ice. Ront frees himself and scrambles across the crumbling ice.

The blackguard gets crunched by falling debree then fails the swim check and drowns. Kiev by chance falls unconscious onto a floating hunk of ice.

There were some good fight in Shadowrun.

In D&D, I dmed a nice challence in an Adventure recently. I run it twice with diffrent groups and both times they liked it.

...But it was no real fight.

In mid of a dungeon
"You step around the corner. Before you is a large cave, your 60ft darkvision /your torchlight does not reach to the other side. Then you realize the ground, it looks somehow breathing, and somehow furry ... You look befor you, and realise that this are actually Gibberings, about 5 per 5ft square, and the ones before you are slowly awaiking."

To the the second (the scouting elfess) I added: "And they seam to be enraged by your torch." and had her running through the entire dungeon, with "masses of gibberings chasing you" and some placebo-Reflex saves to avoid stumbling.

In the first it was like:
Druid: Hey, my spiked stones spell can cover about the whole ground, I cast it.
Sorcerer: Hey, they don't like fire, I blast some scorching rays into them.
DM (me): "They awaik and want to attack you. About 1/3 of them dies instantly on the spikes, this massive death causes the others to panic, again killing lots of them, only some of them manager to stay calm, moving slowly through the field of corpses and the river of blood, away from you in great fear."
A time later some kobolds came and thanked the "heros". After the permission to eat the dead gibberings they were really thankful. ... Yes that was not the purest party. ;)

This female elven mage npc had gotten one of the other PC's in the group(elven male fighter), that was my character's (a dwarf fighter, decked in spiked full plate, and carries an arsenal of weapons) best friend to betray the group. This had gotten the NPC girl who liked him killed. Well as they were escaping, the mage cast a lightning spell at the roof causing a collapse, and consequently killing my cleric girlfriend (human). Well, this didn't sit well with him, he grew rather angry (I decided to level up next level as a barbarian). During a fight in the war that was going on, the dwarves used this spell cannon thing, which caused the ground on the mountain to split, dropping us into caves and splitting us up. I fell in a river and with a massive Armor check penalty and no ranks in swimming and some low rolls I got swept away, fell down a waterfall. Fortunatenly the water was shallow enough after that so I didn't drown.

Anyway, I got up and walked into a cave, hoping to find my friends. Instead I find the mage (she was involved in the war too). She's on a raised area, but its accessable. She begins to cast a spell and I crossbow her, but fail to break her concentration. She casts this spiked chain spell from the BoVD that grapples me. It begins to deal damage to me, and I fail to break the grapple. I'm more than half dead by now, she's taunting me, even moving the chains so I'm closer to her. When suddenly I roll a 20, escaping the grapple. I land safely on the ground with another natural 20, and with a third natural 20, I hit her with a blow from my spiked gauntlet. Surprised she stumbles backwards and falls down a 10ft pit. We roll iniative and I win it, and jump down on top of her, and start beating the crap out of her. She has the chains drag me off of her. She then grabs the chain and tries to pull herself upwards. However, breaking free just enough so I only have one on my ankle, I grab her ankle. She barely manages to keep a hold and then I slam my gauntlet into her ankle, and she fails the roll, so we both go tumbling down (the pit actually had a sloped surface and we failed the rolls)

Now we're in another lower part of the cave. She moves away and stands, facing me. She casts a spell and just stands there. I charge at her and swing my axes, killing her. Just as she's finished off her spell activates and spiked shoot out, KOing me as well for the last of my HP (i was at exactly 0)

Fortunately than my friends arrived. The elf had managed to talk the other dwarf fighter in the group to not kill him by refusing to fight back.

I DM'd a pretty crazy one from the adventure 'Pandemonium in the Veins', it's from Dungeon magazine 96. The final battle took place in the arena, with a full crowd in the stands. Half the party was taking place in the main event, with the crowd shouting and going crazy, the other half was below the arena itself in the storerooms, officies, and training areas. If anyone is going to be going through this adventure I guess minor spoilers follow, so stop reading! Anyways half the party is taking place in this deathmatch on the arena floor, and the other half of the party is fighting this evil cleric downstairs, who unleashes all the monsters in the downstairs pens that they use for some of the battles in the arena, and then sets fire to the place, so next thing you know the crowd starts panicking when fires start popping up all over the arena, and there's these monsters like owlbears and chimeras and others of that ilk running rampant, and the other players up in the actual arena fighting in the event were oblivious to all the hubub downstairs until the place started burning. There was two separate battles going on at once, and I was switching from one to the other every couple of rounds like a movie just to keep building up the tension. That was pretty nuts trying to keep track of everything, but for just the sheer amount of action going on, that was easily for me, and my players, the most insane and exciting combat we've ever participated in (and there's been many, many, many different ones!!). It ended up being a giant melee in the arena floor dodging fires and trying to get at the 'bad guy', avoiding hurting any of the frightened fans and trying not to get seperated from each other. Man, that was crazy!

I've got 2:

first was somewhere around lvl 2 or 3, party was taken captive by a organization of bandits based in a cave. All the gear was stripped from us and we were locked in cells in basically nothing but loin-cloths. I was playing a rogue and bluffed a guard into thinking I still had gold to buy information from him off, and was bribing him for info about his group and the leader and such. When he came close enough the barb of the group grappled through the cell door and knocked him out on the bars. we fished out the key and got his short sword. I asked for the short sword so I could defend myself and sneak out and find our gear but group thought it was better that the barb carried it so he could do more damage. I wasn't playing a kender but definately acted like one with the reaction "that's ok I'll go get one" and left the group, found another guard, fought the guard and disarmed him and got his sword. coming back to the group with a sword they were trying to figure out how the hell I got it but all I'd say was "I found it". so with 2 short swords and nothing else between the whole party we cleared out 20+ bandits and of course found our gear after we didn't need it.

second was a monty hall campaign where an evil king (a hellfire wyrm in disguise) challenged the party to battle in an arena with a large city for audience, he sent out 3 groups of lacheys, that where CR 19, 21, and 23 before we fought him (CR 26) the entire battle took 12 rounds with no rest in between encounters. and the hellfire wrym only lasted 2 of those 12 rounds.

My brother in law had us in this dwarf city about to be under seige by all these underdark forces. There was a friendly giant manning the big gate...the elf ranger was perched on a rooftop with his bow, the half-ogre bard was pounding his drum with his greatclub, the sorc and cleric were right behind the dwarf front lines readying their spells. The gate shook, strained on its hinges...and the drow broke in.

It wasn't against any super villan but it was really great. It took us like 4 hours to finish it but it's easily one of the top 5 sessions I've had.

My coolest fight...

Mid-level Barbarian/ Frenzied Bersker Hlaf-ogre with a huge full blade

We were sneeking into a drow war camp to free some prisoners when we get caught. We ran and found a good spot to hold down when we see the whole fo the drow force decending upon us. My character tells his companions to run and gets ready to fight to the death. A few rounds in he throws him weapon and has to pick up two drow and club the rest.

After a while of no persuit the others come back to see what happen right as my Half ogre finishes off the last drow (how he lived is still strange) the cleric walks up to pat him on the back only for him to turn around after picking up his monsterouse blade only to have the 1-round-left-in-his-frenzy-Half-ogre turn around and chop him nicely in two.

actually, thats my funniest.

My best was just the other day.

I have a level 12 wizard/ cleric of Baccob/ Mystic thurge in a party with a a sacred fist, soulknife, and a warmage.

Our mission was to kill a black dragon and his army of body gaurds. We turn the other three invisible and use a silence spell to sneek them into the maze of tunnels. My Wizard polymorphs into a Mind Flayer and bluffs enough to get the huge Dragon alone in its cave. The rest of the teem, who are supposed to sneek into the dragons cave to back me up, get caught in different corners of variouse tunnels by un-knowing gaurds who are content to stand around and await their masters orders. My wizard sends a silent message to start fighting towards the dragon and he'll hold it till then. He surprizes the dragon with a disentigration spell while they burst out of hiding, the soulknife to a particularly devistating effect. My Wizards gets a higher innitiative than the dragon and casts greater invisibility and floats up into the air. The dragon blows his acidic breath and variouse other attempts to uncover the location of my character while my Wizard pelts him with variouse death effects and spells of nasty natures. Eventually unable to locate and destroy my wizard the beast decides its time to run. My wizard quickly casts Evard's Black Tentalces and traps him. he reveals his true nature and taunts the beast while the tentacles squeeze what little life is left out of him.
Rest of the party enters the room weapons drawn only to find a very dead, very big dragon and my unscathed wizard sifting through treasure.
