| Morpth07-22-05, 09:03 PM | I play a monk in a local game and he is 2nd level. I was given a task to arm him with the best items magical or mundane that could cost no more than 36000 gp. The items can only come from PHB or the DMG. I thought of buying a monk's belt, a periapt of wisdom, bracers of armor, a ring of protection, and possible an amulet of natural armor. I am wondering how ones knows when to balance AC with offensive weapons? Any ideas if these items are worth it aside from the belt? I know thats worth it! :D |
| sleazeonwheels07-22-05, 09:27 PM | 36,000 gold for a 2nd level character? That's pretty unbalanced. 36,000 gold is recommended wealth for a 9th level character. For a 2nd level character, it's 900 gold. |
| Steel Cobra07-22-05, 09:30 PM | well I do play Vile charcters and well I would be a self inflictor for the AC but a item I would go with more AC or wisdom probally wisdom |
| Morpth07-22-05, 09:43 PM | As "sleazeonwheels" mentioned, its it unbalanced and its that way because I didn not include all the details. The details to justify 36000 gp. Its a side game. The pc's get a temporary boost to 9th level and the gold that accompanies that level. It is also not an oriental setting, so the oriental weapons are not to be had. Everything else remains as originally posted. I am only familiar with 2nd edition rules and as such have been away from the game for 5 years. So, in picking the game back up, I was wondering what items I might get for a Halfling monk with 36000 gp. His stats are: STR.....14(16*) DEX.....19(17*) CON.....15 INT.....12 WIS.....16 CHA.....13 *FOR HALFLING race. P.S. I've also never played a Monk before. |
| rks07-23-05, 07:33 PM | Get yourself: * Gloves of dexterity +2 (4000) * Periapt of wisdom +2 (4000) * Monk's belt (13 000) * Bracers of armor +2 (4000) * Amulet of natural armor +2 (8000) * Ring of protection +1 (2000) //35000 = Dex 21 (+5) Wis 18 (+4) +1 AC (deflection) +2 AC (natural armor) +2 AC (armor) +1 AC (monk's belt) = AC 25 Now, get yourself some potions of Enlarge and you are set to go. |
| Dragonsblood07-23-05, 09:00 PM | He can't wear both the amulet of natural armor and the periapt of wisdom. They both take the neck slot. |
| RavenDrake07-24-05, 02:21 AM | Ask your DM if you can buy the Periapt of Widom in Headband form instad of neck slot item form... IF not... I'd say keep the keep the Natural Armour item, and bum a K off a party mate to buy a better Ring of Protection, or a half 'K and pick up Boots of Striding and Springing(extra speed and Jumping to an already speedy, jumpy class is a very good thing) |
| NeueRegel07-24-05, 07:26 AM | This is total sarcasm. I state this up front, because my sarcasm is so often missed on these boards, probably because I expect too much of the readers, and also because I usually don't use emoticons much, as I find them silly. Now, the one sentence I actually planned on typing: Halfling Monk? 36,000gp? I think you can afford an X-box, and a DVD of "Monty Python Holy Grail". Crouching Halfling, Hidden Rabbit. |
