strictly speaking, from any WotC 3.0 or 3.5 product, whats the best 1 handed martial weapon?

also, are there any base types of heavy armor with a max dex bonus of +2?

Longsword. Adamantine. +5.

Mithril full plate. +5.

Sure, there are fancier things you can get, like Holy, Ghost Touch, Flaming, Shocking, whatever, but that Adamantine Longsword +5 will hit -- hard. Any longsword has good damage, good crit range, and it can be used two-handed for that Power Attack goodness and (as with all melee weapons) you can throw it if you really, really need to. Adamantine lets you chop through walls, doors, locks, golems and constructs without worrying about that pesky hardness or DR.

Similarly, there are other fancy options for the armor, but the whole point of armor is not to get hit as much. +5 does that for you.

Adding these enhancement bonuses has the added benefit of additional hardness and hit points (per DMG Errata).

If you can't afford all of those enhancements yet, get the best weapon and armor you can, and add more enhancement bonuses later.

i assumed longsword was the best, but i meant just a basic weapon, unenchanted made out of the regular material for that weapon

same thing for armor... no special materials, just, as listed, a max dex bonus of +2
