I am sorta new to these boards and i was wondering people's oppinion on what is the most powerful/useful thrown weapon. I thought about skiprocks and such, but I would like other ideas if at all possible. Thank you very much.

depends on context.

otherwise for me at least its tied between teh javelin and shuriken.

something about a shuriken thrower build just makes me all gooey inside...

There's a lot of love on these boards for the halfling skiprock.

I'm partial to pressure bombs, but that's a personal thing.

I personally go for daggers. (see this example: Machine Gun Rogue (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=147294))

I like the poor, and often ignored throwing axe. Better damage than the dagger and like the dagger, a fairly good melee weapon as well. The dagger does have a better crit range though.

As a wizard/rogue, I prefer to cast Whirling Blade (longsword usually) and hoping everyone in the straight line is flat-footed.

I suggest getting Ehlonna's Quiver and loading up with Arrows (Darts if your DM allows the substitution - PHB says they're large arrows) Javelins and Spears. Now you are a fully loaded ranged attacker.

The biggest problem I see with ranged attackers is where to store the thrown weapons. Ehlonna's solves this problem. Otherwise, the weight of all those thrown weapons is a problem. Without EH and some other portable source, two spears, javelins, tridents, etc. is the best you probably can do.

Drawing weapons requires time. Quick Draw is good for the ranged attacker when you more than one throw possible in a round. Otherwise, you'll be using a MOVE to draw a weapon and STANDARD to throw. I usually keep one spear in the left hand while drawing and throwing with the right (from EH). This way, even after the throw, I'm still armed for those AoO's.

Rocks are nice if you can afford the feat slots for the rock throwing feat...

Harpoons sound cool too, now if only I knew what they did...:embarrass

My deep halfling druid has great fun hurling Produce Flame. It scales up pretty well so far (just made level 9) with Empower Spell and it should get even better as my druid can afford to buy some more lesser metamagic rods (Maximize, Energy Substitution, Quicken).

My halfling basically takes on the role of archer, using flame instead of arrows.

Since it's a touch attack, Produce Flame ignores natural armor, armor and shield bonuses to AC. And with the usual halfling bonuses for hurled weapons (size mod, Dex mod, +1 racial), my halfling almost always hits.

My halfling is a straight-class druid, and that's worked pretty well, with an advanced dire bat animal companion serving as an aerial archery platform. But if you wanted to make a specialized build, one level of sorcerer would be good for the Guided Shot spell (to eliminate cover and concealment) and one or two fighter levels would get faster access to the ranged combat feats (Two-weapon Fighting, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot and Rapid Shot would all help).

At higher levels, fire resistance and immunity is starting to be a problem, but I'm saving up for a Lesser Metamagic Rod of Substitution (Acid). And if a critter is immune to both fire and acid, well, I'm still a straight druid with all of those spells and abilities to fall back on.

Spear or shortspear. Good range increment, and you can specialize in it to gain benefits at both range and melee.

Handaxe works well in that regard, too, but I just like the coolness of the shortspear.

Whenever I play a thrower(which has happened a total of 1 times) I prefer to fling around enemies, trees, boulders, and small buildings.
