| ryeookin10-29-07, 09:12 PM | I'm playing a fighter who will be getting blasted with ray and touch spells by the dm.. (she just saw how ray of enfeeblement (sp) worked like a total charm on me). We just got a ton I mean a TON of gp so what items would you recommend to up my touch AC?? (I'm looking for permanent items, I.E. not potions or scrolls) My thoughts thus far: dex + items bracers of armor (expensive as hell thought..) rings for deflection bonus .. . What else am I missing.. |
| runestar10-29-07, 09:19 PM | Bracers of armour do not improve your touch AC, IIRC. You might consider miss chances, such as displacmement. |
| kjenks10-29-07, 10:13 PM | A Lesser Cloak of Displacement is a good deal -- it gives your opponents a 20% miss chance all the time. A regular Cloak of Displacement stinks on ice. It takes a standard action to activate it, eating up your whole first round. You could be making a full attack instead. (BTW, if Ray of Enfeeblement is giving you trouble, your DM may be running it wrong. It's a Str penalty, not damage, and penalties from the same source don't stack, so multiple RoE spells won't stack. This is a common error because the spell description table says the word "damage" but the spell block itself says "penalty." The PH Errata makes it clear that the text overrides the table.) |
| RavenDrake10-29-07, 10:48 PM | The best magic items to boost Touch AC are the Rings of Protection for the deflection bonus. Anything that's not an Armour, Nautral Armour, or Shield bonus to AC will apply, so look for things that provide Sacred or Profane bonuses such as clerical spells, Size bonuses(Shrink Person, though that will also reduce your melee damage). If it's one or two spells in particular you're worried about, try a Ring of Counterspells(or Ring of Greater Counterspells in the MIC). If you're thinking long term, the Shield Ward feat(Player's Handbook 2) lets you apply your shield bonus to AC to touch attacks as well as the opposed rolls for Bull Rush, Disarm, Grapple, Overrun, & Trip attempts. |
| Decinious10-30-07, 12:30 AM | Defending weapon/s, +dex item... |
| ibayboy10-30-07, 03:14 AM | Ioun stone for a +1 Insight bonus |
| Garonak10-30-07, 04:35 AM | Ghostward armor (MIC): adds enchantment bonus from armor and shield to touch (Fullplate +5 adds 5 to touch, fp+3 adds 3 and so on). Shield Ward (PHB2, requires shield spec): add shield ac bonus to touch attacks and a bunch of resist checks (grapple, disarm, bull rush etc) Ring of Protection Dusty Rose Ioun Stone +1 (5000), +2 (20000) |
| BruceLeeroy10-30-07, 06:41 AM | An item that grants the spell Ray Deflection. Also, Combat Expertise. |
| Bopple10-30-07, 10:20 AM | Lesser Crystal of Arrow Deflection gives you +5 to AC against ranged attacks, at mere 2,500gp. It does not help you against melee touch, but it works wonders against ray spells. |
