what about this sword?

big bad sword ( temp name '=] )
price 60PO | damage 2d6 | crit 19-20/x2 | weight 10lb

A big bad sword has reach, so you can strike opponents 10 feet away with it. In addition, unlike most other weapons with reach, it can be used against an adjacent foe.

It should be Exotic as you just cant swing round somthing like that as if it was a normal weapon.. you would most probably rest the tip on the ground when not in motion and swing it through a huge heaving motion.
Probably a souped up horse-felling blade in the vain of the greatsword.

Id say Exotic with a -4 penealty even if you are profficient!.
When redied to recieve a charge you can make a free trip attempt at +4 as well as your attack (as you chop your foes legs out from under them), failure does not provoke an counter trip from the target.

I presume, 60 gp, don't knwo what PO is.

next, must be exotic.
Also, a sword with reach is ridiculous, has to be longer than a Greatsword or the Fullblade, neither of which has reach and are already 6+ feet, so technically could reach outside a 5 foot radius, but they don't. Basically you want an item that threatens a 5-10 foot radius, does massive damage as a medium weapon, and doesn't cost very much at all.

Play test it and see how it does. I see anyone wielding this being overpowered. This has to be atleast 2-handed. Might want to apply a -2 or -4 to hit in the adjacent 5 feet, if you want this to exist and not have it kill everything in sight.

I will reitterate my main point - Have a sword that threatens 5-10 feet!? none do, and the fullblade is like 8 feet long, so you would have to be looking at a 10 foot sword. Good luck picking that up and wielding it effectively.

The Longaxe is something you might want to check out, it seems fairly balanced for what it can do. I think it's in CAdv.

I'm sorry, PO is GP in portuguese.

I understand that the notion is kind of ridiculous, and proprably wouldn't be possible in the realworld.

but I don't think it's rule-abusive...

on the feedbacks, i guess you are right about the damage, seems too high. perhaps 2d4? a blade longer than the greatsword, but slimmer
yes, it is 2handed
and I think a -2 on attacks on the 5ft should balance the thing

however, i don't belive it should get a bonus against charge. somehow I don't see it as readable as a lance.

No i dont mean you brace it for the for to ride onto like you would I trident or lance.
I mean you ready it for a "reaping, low swing".... meant for cutting legs out form under horses... which is primary use for really long and heavy swords.
You would hold your action waiting for the charge to come in then swing low and hard. In fact a +8 on that trip would be needed to counter the horses +4 Size and +4 Stability.

Which makes it a nice weapon with a down side. It trips like a demon vs chargers but is highly impracticle (-4 even when profficiant) vs normal opponents.

But if you can counter the -4 its a good weapon, Reach and Adjacent attacks, with a wicked free trip attack.

Infact its probably too good ..... so ignore me ;)

no, greatswords don't have reach :)

for those who may be thinking that I'm trying to chesse my character, I don't plan to use this sword, IIRC I never played a greatsword guy.

my characters tend to have daggers, bows.

however, with my actual character, I'm trying a large-goliath warhammer fighter.

I just had the Idea and wanted to know what everyonelse think about it.

who cares, melee weapons like swords shouldn't have reach at all, no matter what, the only time trhey should have reach is if it is made for a bigger character, like a giant

I think it's called using a a medium character with a large greatsword and monkey fist.

Any way you slice it (punnage) a sword with reach that can attack adjacent foes will be overpowered due to sword type damage or be sill due to having taken the damage down to compensate for reach .... so you end up with a mammoth sword doing long sword damage.

It just wont work. What you are doing is adding an extra (powerful) ability to an existing weapon with no form of penalty and hoping it fits in with all the weapons its unballanced against.
If you dont want it for powergaming purposes but for roleplaying just use a Greatsword or Fullblade.

Do non-reach weapons for large and huge characters actualy have reach of thier own or just inherit the reach of the weilder of enlagred size?

I donīt want it for powerplay, neither for roleplay. I donīt want that.

i just want to know what everyone else thinks about that...

I guess I donīt see reach as powerfull as all of you.
maybe I'm understimating it
