With the feat monkey grip from complete warrior, a medium creature can wield a gargantuan sunblade for only a -6 penalty...

how long is it, and what does it weight?

with the monkey grip feat, a medium fighter can wield a large sunblade (and large maximum) with a -2 penalty. This has been discussed at length. The literal wording of monkey grip says it applies only to a weapon one size larger (i.e. it would not help someone wield a dagger two sizes larger). However, the writer's intent could very well have been to allow it to still provide a benefit for even larger weapons. Indeed, the 3.5 FAQ has two separate examples where it interprets Powerful build (which has similar wording) this way.

read the feats carefully and confusion like this dosent arise.Considering the OP used an interpretation similar to the Sage's, such condescending seems unwarranted.

Stupidity has Infinite Mass.

Seriously, if a Medium greatsword is 75" from point to hilt, can you imagine trying to just CARRY around something several size catagories larger? You'd need a cart and horse just to comfortably taxithe damn thing from one town to another, let's not even get INTO trying to use the damn thing in an indoor dungeon.

Get a friggin' Greataxe; simplicty is wonderful.

Well, it depends on which version you are using. The 3.0 version says that you can wield one weapon as if you are one size category larger. the 3.5 says you can weild large weapons with a -2 penalty. The 3.0 version is a little like powerful build, except it only applies to one weapon.

So, if you are using the 3.0 version, and you pick sunblade as your weapon, you use that one weapon as if you were a large creature. So, in fact you could use a gargantuan sunblade, but the penalty is only -2. For this reason, they updated it to 3.5, which doesnt let you do this. You can only use a large sunblade with 3.5 rules.

A medium sunblde is wielded as a light weapon for a medium creature

By using the rules of inappropriately sized weapons on page 113 in PHB, a huge sunblade would be wielded as a two-handed weapon for a medium creature for a -4 penalty

With monkey grip you can increase the size by one step for another -2 penalty, for a total of -6

Ok, well then i guess you could. I didnt realize that the sunblade was a light weapon. In that case, To the OP: YES!

Congratulations. You now have a 25' long sword. Go ahead. Give that a swing.

...

See? See how you can totally fit that into a 10' wide dungeon corridor? See how the blade is balanced, in the physical sense of the word? See how pwnzrz it is?

I don't either.

Honestly. It's vaguely interesting in theory, but it's incredibly ludicrous in execution. A blade that long will not fit in most houses. You can use it as a battering ram.

As for weight, hmm...

A medieval battle-ready zweihander was, at most (with a few exceptions) about 8 pounds. And that was a balanced sword. So... that's considered large. Increase by two sizes, and remember to multiply the weight by eight each time (because it's not just the length that increases), and you get 8^2, or 64, *8 pounds. 352 pounds.

352 pounds.

Don't even think about making a fighter that uses that.

Well, that brings up the question: If you had a swordy-sword big enough, would it do bludeoning damage? Would this be extra damage? Or would it do just slashing damage?

canīt you calculate the damage based on weight?

like the hurlin hulk.

heh.

Ya. First 500lbs = 1d6
Next 100lbs after = +1d6

So, a 1000lbs sword would do 6d6 bludgeoning damage. But would you add this damage? or would it not apply?

remember to multiply the weight by eight each timePer the D&D rules, the weapon's weight is only doubled with each size increase (indicating that it possibly does not truly double in length with each size increase).

I think so to
so it would weight 2 (base wieght) *2 (for large size) *2 (for huge size) *2 (for gargantuan size) = 16 lb

the damage would be like 6d8 Slashing plus enhancement
(i found this site http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#weaponSize to argue)

afterall, the better way to deal damage is being the DM.

why dont we just step it up to a Half-Ogre and make it a COLLOSAL sun blade?

and that way the str bonus helps make up for the massive -6 penalty.

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Weapons don't need room to swing in the rules technically. A Large creature fills a 10x10 square and can still swing his greatsword and uses his reach. As long as the weilder doesn't take up larger than a 10ft space, he's fine.

the wierd part is that you can wield this gargantuan sunblade from level 1
it will on cost like 60000 gp and a nice DM

at epic levels you can take the feat: wield oversized weapon, and then wield an colossal weapon but still only be a medium creature
