Hello,

so a halfling without Improved Unarmed Strike does 1d2 subdual damage as an unarmed strike, with the option to take a -4 to hit to make it regular damage.

1. If the halfling bit someone instead, is that still 1d2?

2. Would it still be subdual damage?

3. Would Improved Unarmed Strike affect a halfling's bite attack?

4. If the halfling were a monk, would he count his bite as an Unarmed Strike (extra damage, unarmed bonus, flurry of blows)?

A halfing doesn't have a bite attack to speak of. That is, a halfling in combat cannot use her mouth effectively enough to deal damage.

I would say yes to all of these. But the unarmed strike rules are a little fuzzy, so others might disagree.

A bite attack is a natural attack, and is not treated as part of a flurry. You can flurry+unarmed strikes, and attack with your natural attacks as secondary attacks though.

According to the rules:

You can use a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, including an unarmed strike, to deal lethal damage instead, but you take a -4 penalty on your attack roll.

I would allow a halfling to take a -4 penalty to his unarmed attack and declare that it was a lethal attack.

It would continue to be an unarmed attack, but for flavor purposes it would be called a 'bite'.

It would NOT count as a Natural Weapon.

I agree with this...I always say an Unarmed Strike can be ANYTHING a normal human can use to deal damage, though it always functions exactly the same. Using your nails to slash? Unarmed Strike. Biting? Unarmed Strike. Weilding your "manhood" as an improvised Great Club? Unarmed Strike.

This way, you can do it flavourwise without doing anything wonky to the mechanics.

Since a bite is an unarmed strike, are you saying that a halfling monk can flurry of blows with one or more bites?

not a bite per se, but extra unarmed strikes yes.

and am i the only one who seems to remember that improved unarmed strike makes it deal lethal? am i wrong?

not a bite per se, but extra unarmed strikes yesNote that the unarmed strikes are being described as bites, which is perfectly fine.

am i the only one who seems to remember that improved unarmed strike makes it deal lethal? No, but initial example was with a halfling that did not have improved unamred strike. If he had IUS, then yes, he would not need to take the -4 penalty.

Yes. If thats the flavor you like, go for it.

Though frankly, the idea of flurrying with ShinAkuma's suggested weapon is considerably more disturbing.

Unarmed strikes can be made with any part of your body, teeth even. You can designate any part of your body as being used. But that's just for flavour. Mechanics wise, the number of unarmed strikes you can make at any one time remains unchanged.
