According to the description in Complete Scoundrel, a single successful attack with Bladeshimmer Oil-coated weapon removes enough of the oil so that the weapon can be seen again. It does not specify, but that sounds meant for melee weapons to me. Here's the situation. My character wants to coat his bow and some arrows in Bladeshimmer Oil. It is a moot point for the arrows, considering you fire a new one each attack. However, would my character have to recoat his bow in Bladeshimmer Oil after every attack to get the desired effect? The rules specify a successful attack. That means that a character can miss 100 times, and the weapon will still be coated. Therefore, it is the act of hitting the target that causes the oil removal. You don't hit the target with the bow anyway. For a bow, a miss and a hit are the exact same physical movements. At the same time, a single coating shouldn't be have everlasting effects. I figure that each coat of Bladeshimmer Oil on a bow should allow for x number of successful attacks before a new coat is needed. What should x be? Thanks.
