| eyelessgame05-21-06, 07:25 PM | Anyone within range of a gaze attack has to make a save on their turn -- i.e. everyone within 30' of a basilisk has to make a save (unless they are closing their eyes, or blinded, or turning away etc.) But suppose said basilisk has been blinded? PResumably it can't then target its gaze on its own turn -- but does the blindness render its attack useless? Most creatures with gaze attacks in mythology -- medusae and basilisks, for example -- turn viewers to stone; it doesn't require that the creature see them. So is it a Bugblatter Basilisk? Can it petrify viewers even if it can't see them? Nothing in the RAW/SRD seems to clarify -- actually, the RAW says nothing about blindness turning off a gaze attack so far as I know; am I wrong? |
| DaMullet05-21-06, 07:58 PM | Well, it depends to me on how he became blind. You can't really have a gaze attack unless you have eyes, so having them clawed out or burned with acid might do it. To simplify matters, I'd just say it does shut it off. |
