Is there a blink dog saddle in any books? I want something that would let me blink when the dog does and dimension door with it. You know, for a theoretical blink dog riding halfling outrider sort of thing.

Or, alternatively, if anyone has any good pricing thoughts for making such an item, please share, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

A normal saddle would not be enough.

The Blink dog has zero ability to carry any riders and can not even use it's dim door ability with equiptment.

It would have to be a magical saddle.

I would price it at 1/2 the price for a magic item that let you blink at will and dim door at will as a free action

Blink = 3*5*2000*4 (rounds)/2 = 60,000
(Note technically, the blink should have the same 15 caster level as the dim door, but this thing is going to be super-expensive anyway, so I priced it at the minimum 5)

Dim door as a free action (quickened) = 8*15*2000 /2 = 120,000gp

Forget about the penalty for multiple powers in a slotted item, as they are 'related' and both require the blink dog.

Total value = 180,000 gp.

Note with this version.

------

To cut down the price try one that lets you blink at will, but if the mount dim-doors, it leaves you behind. (Glad I left the caster level at 5 earlier)

Total price = only 60,000 gp.

In either case, the saddle only lets the blink dog carry you. It grants no control over the blink dog, so he decides when to blink, when to dimdoor, etc. etc.

first off, the multiple thing on an item penalty does not apply (is an item that isn't designed to be carried), 2nd off, since its so situational, probably should have a discount. (only while on dog)

I'd say 60k, total.

Wrong. Look up unslotted items.

If the item is not slotted (i.e. not designed to be carried), then it automatically gets priced x2 again, which you left out. I personally do not want to double the price just to make it unslotted.

However, this item IS designed as a slotted item.
(I forgot to make this clear in the description)

Let me clarify it:

This item takes up the Belt clothing slot of the Blink Dog. I consider it a 'physical improvement on the Blink Dog', although that is stretching it.

Second of all, my number of 180,000 included a discount of 50% off list price for only working with the Dog.

See that /2? That was half off for only working on a blink dog.

60,000 gp is a worthwhile price for allowing you to unlimited Blink with your blink dog mount as a free action.

It compares well with the ring of blinking 27,000 gp which requires a standard action to activate once every 7 rounds.

(effectively you have 27,000 as is, 60,000 quickened)

I could see reducing the price down to 27k if you put in some kind of standard action required every 7 rounds (CL of the ring)

Actuallly, if you check the Arms and Equipment guide it has rules for this

If you wear a Ring of Blinking it will instinctively become aligned to your blink dog mount and let you blink in perfect time with it so as to keep riding.

It says that there's no known method to let a player come along with the blink dog's Dimension Door, but I suppose you could brew one up (or, hypothetically... wear a Blink Dog Shirt soulmeld)

Does the 3.0 book Arms and Equiptment Guide state you don't have to activate the item?

I think alignment only makes it so that you blink with the dog rather than out of sync with it.

If AEG does not specify you no longer have to activate, then my analysis stands:

180,000 for both dim door and blinking, no activation required.
60,000 for just the blinking without having to activate it.
27,000 for just the blinking and having to activate it.

The Blink dog has zero ability to carry any riders
What you talking about Willis? A blink dog has exactly the same ability as any other quadraped of its size to carry riders. It may not have anyway to blink or dimension door with them, but it certainly can carry them.
