| Ogre4Hire10-23-05, 11:26 PM | The bludgeoning equivilent of Keen is Impacting, and it's found in both the Magic of Faerun and Arms & Equipment Guide. There are no equivilents of Wounding or Vorpal. Think about it, decapitating someone with a warhammer? And Wounding weapons promote blood loss, while blunt impacts tend to crush blood vessals, reducing bleeding (at least when compaired to other types of injuries). |
| sandskimmer10-23-05, 11:28 PM | Thanks. But yes, I could see a blunt equivalent of vorpal. Ever hear the phrase "knock your head clean off" ? Also, internal bleeding can be caused by blunt trauma, causing the person to bleed to death internally. |

| tiercel10-24-05, 03:01 AM | If you have, or can borrow, a copy of the Arms and Equipment Guide (even though it's technically 3.0, most of it is fine for 3.5), you could check out the bonebreaker hammer, which is sort of like wounding insofar as it gives Dex damage on a crit. While I suppose you could, mechanically, put the vorpal effect onto a bludgeoning weapon, the flavor seems a bit off.... that is, all the problems of vorpal flavor text seem worse for "vorpal bludgeoning." It is a bit ridiculous to imagine a M-sized vorpal longsword decapitating a Colossal sized dragon -- I would argue, if anything, it is even more ridiculous imagining an M-sized "vorpal" warhammer doing the equivalent to a Colossal foe. |
| sandskimmer10-27-05, 09:56 PM | Actually, I've always ruled that vorpal will sever an appendage appropriate to the combat situation. So in your examples, the vorpal ability would sever a foot or toe, giving high combat penalties to dex, AC, etc, but not severe the head. Additionally, I have played where vorpal only adds +1 to the weapons crit multiplier. Perhaps "shattering"? |
