I came on the idea as I was working on a light steam canon increasing the rate fire by having multiple boilers at high pressure but Under the effect of a Shrink Item spell. In effect making cannon case or bullet shells without the bullet. So doing research on boilers its easy to find the fact that they blow up in a rather spectacular fashion and knowing my DM a misfire or handling accident is a possibility in the heat of battle. I got to go I will be back!:weep: |

So if it ruptures it will rupture there directing any dangerous blast away from you. Good Ideas I all ready planed Safety valves. I am also concerned with incoming enemy fire such as ballista, catapult, dive-bomb runs with boulders by large and bigger creatures, Telekinetic thrust spears all these thing may Pierce the boilers in ways that would bypass the intentional defect. Maby I should skip the cannon and just weaponize the boiler its self? |

I don't know how much time you'll have to build up the lines but you could do several things. 1. Put them in trenches or holes. This will keep a lot of things away from your boilers. Save maybe heavy rocks coming in from right above. 2. If you've got less time you can put up a few wooden barriers, it will keep the lighter stuff such as spears and arrows as well as blocking line of effect/sight for magical spells. Weaponizing the boilers could work but it will most likely change their function. What is the function of the weapon now? A second tip is to overengineer. If 1 inch steel is strong enough then make it with 2 inches. Weak spots generally include connection points, rivets and hoses So cover those double. Third tip is maitenance. Make sure that after a fight you check the gear, Exchange flexible parts and moving parts regularly. IE: A flint from a flintlock needed replacing after roughly 30 shots. |
