Anyone of you use bola and Nets?

When do you use bola? Ranged trip attack make opponent prone.
Prone opponent are -4 to hit by range attack, so why do you wan to trip them?

Net got 10ft range, how effective is that?

Both cost a EWP. Is it worth it?

Please share your experience.

Thanks!

i see bola's and nets as more of npc items myself. they can be great if u use them in war battles an such but if not ur better off just killing a bunch of people with your weapons.

for instance in my country my army is heavy on mounted combat.
it works out great i must say.

I have war Elephants with Howdahs (basically carriages with railings and i can attack with reach weapons and such over it.

well i pack 3 fighters and a cleric up there with 1 driver they all wield guisarmes and trip the foes and they also have nets which bunchs them up prone lol. then my war Elephant trapples them to death lol.

works pretty well.

I agree. They are nice for some enemy grunts to have every once in a while.

There was once a character (Played by the ovate, see sig) who was a paladin gladiator, using a net and a trident. Certainly an interesting character concept...

I think the secret to both of these is that you're basically only using them for touch attacks. So even if you aren't proficient, the -4 to hit for nonproficiency isn't that bad. They are totally not worth the EWP feat, but they can still be useful weapons to carry around in case the need comes up.

My human fighter mage took the EW, Point blank shot, Precise Shot, Far shot.

After you drop them with bolas ether you or a friend move up to melee attack and keep them prone.

It is cool in large fights like storming a fortress were waves of enemies come at you and its not feasible to play the come back tomorrow game.
Were you need to conserve spells or you have used them up.

I hit foes who are engaged in fighting my party and they go down hard when prone and flanked! The hits pile up and the fighter can use Power Attack the Rogue gets sneak attack off with ease.

When foes run to escape or get help its great to drop them with bolas.
If you wish to question foes the subdual damage is a nice buffer from death when incapacitating them.

A solo rogue with bolas can be evil if he has a Silence spell effect on an object.

I see Bolas and Nets as being take-them-alive tools. I happen to like these types of missions.

Bolas- if the enemy is in the process of running away and you don't want him to, chuck one of these at him. He bites the dust, giving another player enough time to catch him.

Net- Even better. Excellent ambush weapon, especially in cities.
