06-26-06, 05:12 AM Heya, anyone know where a decent set of rules are for making armor out of bone? I have a primitive society I am building and they tend to use bone and ivory for weapons and armor. Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction?

06-26-06, 05:21 AM I will suggest you to use rule for metal with a -1 on AC for the lack of hardness, only "pate" like armor (no chain for obvious reason)
As example
Bone breast plate = +4 AC
Bone complete armor = +7 AC

Pheraps they will have a better "armor penalty" due to the fact that bone is lighter than steel

Well, I'm not totally positive about this, because it would probably require a larger volume of bone to attain a competitive protection against steel... The plate is thicker= higher penalty. Well, that's at least how I see it...

06-26-06, 12:29 PM Weapons made of bone have a -2 penalty on attack and damage rolls (with a minumum damage of 1). Stone age cultures used leather, padded, wood, or bone armor. Historically, only a few exceptions to this rule exist, and those forms of armor are all made of bronze. Bone has hardness 6 and 10 hp per inch of thickness.

Note: edited to leave out the info on stone armor/weapons, as they were no the topic of the post

It dosn't say anything about the stats of armor being different (except the hardness/hp difference). It also dosn't say anything about the price.

There are stats for leather armor reinforced w/strips of bone in A&EG:

Light Armor

+3 AC
+4 Max Dex
–3 Armor Check
15% Spell failure
20 lb.
