My character has had some problems with the party rogue stealing his coin purse, and I was thinking that I could get some kind of booby trapped purse any suggestions on that kind of item including price or crafting info. I was thinking the item could run the range between spraying some sort of dye or poison, to being like a spike trap.

Ps. I could just put the purse in my boot, I know, but where's the fun in that?

All kinds of info on traps. This may be something you want to make... The higher the CR of the trap the higher the price... Depending on what level you are, you may want to make it just an annoyance, rather than something that does real damage. Maybe cast something like 1 (one) magic missle... Or if you are a high enough level and really want to get him angry have it cast a cage of force... It will certainly get his attention. And unless he can teleport to another plane he can't get out of it.

Theres always finding a bag of devouring that looks like a coin purse. A nice fancy new purse with a handfull of copper coins ell coated in black lotus residue should work too..... Then again those might be a bit extreme for in part use. Though if someone has a repeating patern of stealing from the aprty he might havi it comming.

Whos the cleric? Can see th rogue laying there at -9 while the cleric in panic yells "Where the **** is my devine focus... I swear it was in my coin purse!!"

D&D traps, IMO, are ridiculous to work with. A simple tripwire costs a fortune and weeks to craft.

If you want to trap a container, use a spell like Glyph of Warding.

have a purse made with a bear trap in it and have it activate if not opened correctly.
Bear traped purse
cost: 50gp for regular 100gp for masterwork
dc reflex save of 18/25 depending on version
dc strength check 18/25 to open once closed
1d10 damage per round hand is stuck in after 5 rounds fingers fall off

IIRC BOVD has a section on booby-trapping equipment including two pouches/purses that squirt fire and poison respectively.

Any use?

Have the party mage cast Fire Trap on a piece of paper, fold it up and put it in the purse. When the rogue steals it next time, they'll get a face full of fire. Sure they might evade it or whatever, but you'd have him literally red handed.
