Boosting Trip attacks [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-20-07, 02:50 PM Hey guys, any advice...
I'm playing a level 8 human scout who spring attacks into combat, attacks with skirmish damage, then gets a free trip attempt because of the knockdown feat. Then another free attack because of improved trip and more skirmish damage. yay.

I was wondering if their any items, feats, etc. to boost my trip attempt modifiers.

08-20-07, 04:25 PM Belt of Growth -- makes you one size category larger = +4 to trip.

08-20-07, 06:11 PM Anything that boosts your size, so a Belt of Growth, another party member casting Enlarge Person on you, Righteous Might, Polymorph, etc.

Armbands of Might give an unnamed +2 bonus on strength checks (tripping is a strength check).

Helm of Battles gives a +2 unnamed bonus on one trip attempt 3/day.

There is a +1 equivalent weapon enhancement called "sweeping" that gives you a +2 bonus to trip attempts with that weapon.

Competition domain gives you a +1 unnamed bonus on all opposed checks.

A ray of enfeeblement (or similar strength reducing magic) or a reduce person (or similar size reducing magic) can make your opponent worse at resisting your trips.

And of course, anything that boosts your strength is helpful.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

08-20-07, 06:12 PM I am pretty sure knockdown and the extra attack from Improved Trip do not stack to give you a free attack after the trip.

I think that was covered in the FAQ, but I am not positive.

08-20-07, 10:26 PM Unapproachable east has a feat which gives you +4 on trip checks and to resist them, and more useful - the ability to take improved trip without having to meet its prereqs.

Sadly, it has a fairly strict roleplaying requirement, so your scout is likely unable to qualify for it.:(

You are correct. The Improved Trip free attack is "as if you had not done the trip attack. " (paraphrasing)

If you don't start out doing a trip attack, you can not gain the free attack from Improved Trip.
