| Sander_Kaa11-21-04, 06:24 AM | Hi, I was wondering how you guys get your magic items. In my party the're aren't many magic items on each corner of the dungeon. However I do have some serious goldpieces to buy some. However, my DM is saying: In this city magic items are forbidden so you won't be able to buy them. At the moment I am looking for boots and a cloak of elvenkind for my sneakster and I am puzzling on a way to get my fingers after them.. any ideas? Regards, Sander |

Realistically, magic items being illegal just means you're going to have to search the black market for it. Since you're looking for sneaking equipment I'm going to assume you're a rogue. Just put your roguish skills to work! |

If there's a tavern that is really dirty or everyone is fighting (or maybe both), hop right in and ask around. Your DM might try and be a jerk and say the guards bust you undercover while you ask around so always have a dagger ready. |

Just by going to the nasties tavern might not be the best first option. Marketplaces, banks, taverns, inns, fight clubs, etc. The rich probably have access to it but don't share that information, but there should be rumors or leaks...if your DM is open enough to allow that sorta thing. No every DM is always so intricate to detail. If then it leads you to the nastiest tavern, you know where to go when you're better prepared. Also I highly recommend not bringing all your gold. Try downsizing by upgrading to platinum or igots of something. Maybe currency, gems, etc. I do my best to invest in platinum and items that will sell for cost or near appraised value. Remember a sack of gold weighs a lot and is very tempting to steal. If you can't get the magic items, try alternate items. From Arm&Eq, there are silent shoes and types of cloaks that give a small bonus to hide/move silently but they are cheap, non magical, and should be easy to attain. good luck, elven kind boots and cloak make a fine addition to any sneaker. |

Honestly, talk with your DM, see if he'd allow you to access a black market. Find out why he isn't allowing you to just buy magic items. It might be a plot hook of some sort. And make sure you bring friends along in the game if you go to that tavern, in case something goes wrong. |
| Ipsissimus11-22-04, 03:59 AM | you'd think PUMA's would be a better choice for a sneaker no, New Balance for walking on unsteady surfaces, and Sketchers for those shady types. :rimshot: You DM's world could simply be low magic, as to let the players appreciate it more. When our DM curbs the magic equipment in the campaign there is either a reason or he's just being cheap...when that happens we go to great lengths to get into as many encounters as we can so our level completely surpasses our character wealth. Then the DM can't help but scatter some decent treasure, otherwise he wouldn't have any fun running difficult encounters since we just couldn't handle them as a poor adventurer. It also helps to bribe the DM with snacks, seems to work...no treasure? no snacks that week and the following. You can always leave that town and find another one that sells magic. |
