| MOD300403-30-07, 04:43 AM | I was thinking that if I can wear a ring of invisibility and not be seen why isn't there a magic item that provides complete silence? Perfect for rogues and scoundrels of all sorts. Could someone help me make these? |
| TB03-30-07, 07:31 AM | using a spell of silence if it is command word activated Command word Spell level1 × caster level × 1,800 gp 2x3x1800=10,800 gp or if it is continuous Use-activated or continuous Spell level1 × caster level × 2,000 gp3 2x3x2000 = 12,000 gp |
| Fallenangel35903-30-07, 09:18 AM | You have to realize though, that invisibility should use the same formula as silence, and the formula gets 12,000 gp, but they changed it from the formula, making invisibility cost 20,000gp. Now is silence as important as invisibility, I don't know, but its useful. Also, once its activated, you can not activate any other command word item. Command word items require you to speak. :) |
| ShinAkuma203-30-07, 09:58 AM | Now is silence as important as invisibility, I don't know, but its useful. Invisibility has combat applications on its own. Silence is useless unless you're also unseen. |
| tarkin03-30-07, 10:45 AM | Invisibility lets you sneak attack. Silence lets you stop casters from attacking, if it has a radius. If you have the Silence only apply to you, not a radius, then it should be fine priced at 12,000 If you allow the guy to get within 10ft of a spellcaster and inflict silence on them, than I would look at the 20,000 price. |
| Azrah03-30-07, 10:54 AM | Invisibility has combat applications on its own. Silence is useless unless you're also unseen. Not entirely useless: our resident wizard cast a silence spell on our half-orc barbarian. I (a rogue) located an ambush point, we flanked them and came in from behind. The barbarian raged, ran up behind the biggest guy and crushed his skull. Since the guy couldn't hear him coming, he had no reason to look behind him: Crush, crush, crush... I do think that having silence affect only you is worthless: all it does is make you unable to speak - if it doesn't affect even a small area around you, you won't make noise, but the sticks breaking under your feet will... |
| Narris03-30-07, 10:59 AM | Boots of Elvenkind These soft boots enable the wearer to move quietly in virtually any surroundings, granting a +5 competence bonus on Move Silently checks. Faint transmutation; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, creator must be an elf; Price 2,500 gp;Weight 1 lb. |
| Narris03-30-07, 11:23 AM | Boots of Silence: Complete silence prevails in a 20 ft radius. All sound is stopped: Conversation is impossible, spells with verbal components cannot be cast, and no noise whatsoever issues from, enters, or passes through the area. These boots provide a defense against sonic or language-based attacks. These benefits only apply to a rogue or other appropriate stealth classes if crafted for them, specifically. Faint illusion; CL 2nd; Craft Wondrous Item, silence; Price 11,200gp;Weight 1 lb. Spell level 2 X Caster level 2 = 4000 4000 X Use activated or continuous 2000gp = 8000gp 8000gp X 2(1 min./level, continuous) = 16000gp Specific class or alignment: 16000gp -30% = 11,200gp |
| Kursk03-30-07, 11:32 AM | Boots of Elvenkind These soft boots enable the wearer to move quietly in virtually any surroundings, granting a +5 competence bonus on Move Silently checks. Faint transmutation; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, creator must be an elf; Price 2,500 gp;Weight 1 lb. This is a piece of crap item on a cost/benefit basis. A HIGHLY nerfed version of the 1st Ed item. |
| Narris03-30-07, 11:56 AM | Version 2: Boots of Silence: These boots do not make any noise while a rogue is wearing them. Faint illusion; CL 2nd; Craft Wondrous Item, silence; Price 1,120gp;Weight 1 lb. Spell level 2 X Caster level 2 = 4 4 x 2000gp(use activated) = 8000gp Spell limited to feet: 8000gp x 4/5 (reducing radius by 5ft, 4 times) = 1600gp Specific class or alignment: 1600gp -30% = 1,120gp |
| Kyaran03-30-07, 10:02 PM | Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the formulaic price of a Ring of Invisibility 24,000 gp? 2*3*2000 = 12,000 and then doubled for 1 min/lvl duration. Giving a silence effect as the spell should be expensive on the order of a Ring of Invisibility. If you merely want the wearer to have a massive/unbeatable Move Silently check... consider that an item giving a +20 competence bonus to Move Silently costs 40,000 gp. Of course, skill bonuses get silly above the +10 mark. For a personal silence effect (use-activated with Move Silently attempt), that also doesn't allow you to speak/hear/cast/etc, I'd be OK with 12,000 gp. |
| Beckett03-31-07, 11:48 AM | And makes you completely immune to Sonic damage and the vast majority of enchantment spells. |
| Beckett03-31-07, 11:49 AM | And why would only a rogue benefit from these? Honestly, I'd allow anyone but a rogue to get the benefit before the other way around. |
