| Xabre02-07-06, 08:58 AM | The title says it all... how much would this be, for a continuous item? |
| Romanus_Mortus02-07-06, 09:01 AM | They're slippers, actually, not boots. They're in the DMG, like 1500gp or something ridiculously cheap. I don't have my book with me here, being 6,000 miles away from my home in the US and all....check the DMG, they're a common item: Slippers of Spider Climbing |
| RaspK FOG02-07-06, 09:09 AM | Maybe you should check the wondrous items found in both the DMG and the SRD first: they are not boots, but the cost would be the same, logically. ;) EDIT: Romanus Mortus beat me to it. :D |
| Xabre02-07-06, 09:10 AM | I had checked the SRD, and didn't find anything except the Cloak of Arachnida... the Slippers are 10 minutes per day for 4800 gp. That might be enough for my player in my campaign. by my math, creating one that's continuous would be about 12000... |
| Zherog02-07-06, 10:43 AM | Well, let's start with the formula and see what that gives us. Spell Level (2) * Caster Level (3) * 2000 = 12,000. However, we need to adjust this a little further for the duration. Spider climb is a 10 min/level spell, so we need to multiply that cost by 1.5, bringing the formulaic cost to 18,000 for a pair of boots with always-on spider climb. The question then becomes whether continuous use is worth nearly 4 times the 10 minutes of the standard slippers. |
| Xabre02-07-06, 11:32 AM | Well, having the slippers run only 10 minutes is actualy a purposeful reduction in caster level... the spell should run 30 minutes minimum with a 3rd level caster. The slippers also have the exra restriction of failing on slippery surfaces; you can chalk that up to the fact that the item used WERE slippers, but they could be a restriction to further lower cost. |
| Zherog02-07-06, 12:19 PM | True, I suppose. However, the slippers allow the wearer to keep his hands free, while the spell doesn't. That's a really big benefit, and probably offsets the cost reductions you mentioned. |
| Rulebook02-07-06, 08:58 PM | its 10 minutes, but not all at once... when do you need to spiderclimb for more than 3 or 4 rounds at a time? |
| ReverendCow02-07-06, 09:28 PM | You're really better off getting the Cloak of Arachnida: Cloak of Arachnida: This black garment, embroidered with a weblike pattern in silk, gives the wearer the ability to climb as if a spider climb spell had been placed upon her. In addition, the cloak grants her immunity to entrapment by web spells or webs of any sort—she can actually move in webs at half her normal speed. Once per day, the wearer of this cloak can cast web. She also gains a +2 luck bonus on all Fortitude saves against poison from spiders. Faint conjuration and transmutation; CL 6th; Craft Wondrous Item, spider climb, web; Price 14,000 gp;Weight 1 lb. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland02-07-06, 10:17 PM | Back when spider climb as the right level, it was 2000gp, but you still had to use your hands. |
| gorfnad the shiznit02-08-06, 01:33 AM | From the SRD 3.5 "Slippers of Spider Climbing: When worn, a pair of these slippers enable movement on vertical surfaces or even upside down along ceilings, leaving the wearer’s hands free. Her speed is 20 feet. Severely slippery surfaces—icy, oiled, or greased surfaces— make these slippers useless. The slippers can be used for 10 minutes per day, split up as the wearer chooses. Faint transmutation; CL 4th; Craft Wondrous Item, spider climb; Price 4,800 gp;Weight 1/2 lb." |
