am considering buying boots of steadfastness which i have limited access to in a living greyhawk campaign. Basically the arms and eqipment guide says you count as being set against a charge if holding a medium weapon and wearing the boots.

what is the benefit of this though? will i only do double damage if using a trident/spear etc? Do i need the hold the line feat for an attack of oppurtunity? or does my initiative change to below the charger and i get an attack? and will this be double damage as in the set vs charge rules

the main thing i don't get is that the boots say with any medium weapon but x2 damage is only from spears/tridnets isn't it?

sorry to waffle
