| Darth Sephiroth04-12-07, 08:18 PM | How would one make a glove that can hold an unlimited number of Shuriken (Not generate them like a variant of the Quiver of Andariel) sort of like a Glove of Storing except limited to storing one type of thrown weapon at a time and can still be drawn as usual. I'm trying to use it for a low level ninja since the variant Quiver is to costly |
| JiCi04-12-07, 08:21 PM | In the Magic Item Compendium, there are the Gloves of Endless Javelins and the Gauntlets of Infinite Blades that procude javelins and daggers at will... so it shouldn't be to hard to get an item for shurikens. |
| Darth Sephiroth04-12-07, 08:31 PM | Doesn't help much since I don't have that book. My budget is strained with my open use cash I normally use for gaming books going to replace my laptop. Would it work to basically take the base cost of the Glove of Storing and limit it to one type of weapon (Shuriken in this case) but remove the weight restrictions to what can be stored and how many. It would modify the utility of the item by restricting versatility while giving it a useful ability in exchange. |
| Tamerlane04-13-07, 02:10 AM | OK I've thrown something together for you. This isn't exactly what you're asking (it creates shuriken rather than storing them), but I'm using the base mechanics found in the MIC, though I added some tweaking for the mechanic shurikens are really used for: poison. Hands of Silent Blades Price (Item Level): 7,500 gp (11th) / 9,500 gp (12th) Body Slot: Hands Caster Level: 5th Aura: Faint; DC 17 (Evocation) Activation: Free (mental) Weight: -- This pair of silk handwrappings are as dark as the night sky. When first donned, they glimmer once as though reflecting the stars themselves. The hands of silent blades are prized by characters of stealth and subterfuge. These gloves can be activated when making an attack. When activated, they create a +1 shuriken made of pure force that is used as the weapon for that attack. The gloves can be activated during any attack with no limit to the number of shurikens created per round. The shurikens dissipate immediately after the attack is resolved. Some versions of the hands of silent blades include a leather slot that rests (when properly wrapped) on the back of the hand. This slot can hold up to five poison vials. As part of the activation, the wearer can choose to dose the created shuriken with a poison stored in one of the vials (the wearer chooses which one). This effect is instantaneous and is part of the free action of activating the gloves normally. Loading the slot is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity; replacing an empty vial with a full one is a move action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. (If the vial is stored and not at hand, the wearer must retrieve it first, provoking attacks normally.) Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wondrous Items, magic missile, poison (for poison version). Cost to Create: 3,750 gp, 300 XP, 8 days. / 4,750 gp, 380 XP, 10 days. Edit: Changed the activation type to mental for obvious reasons. |
| Myree04-13-07, 04:28 AM | Great work Tamerlane! I had faced a similar "challenge" before and answered it with bracers that stored a shuriken each -- once drawn and thrown, they return the beginning of the next round. Yours are by far a better alternative and a great theme as well! |
| Darth Sephiroth04-13-07, 09:07 AM | Not quite what I was aiming for but nice. |
| Zuractai04-13-07, 10:03 AM | I think the price would be a bit higher, closer to what the quiver of infinite arrows. The problem with the Glove of Infinite Blades (That makes daggers) is that it is not a free action to use, it is a Swift, so you can make only one per round, while the Quivers allows as many as you need. Not to mention +1 Shurikens made of force would also be worth more. If you had ones that stored them, I would say the easiest way is to not have it be "Infinite" technicly, but effectively so. A belt of hidden pouches could hold around 1500 or so shurikens, for 5k. The gloves would be weaker because they are limited to Shurikens, but stronger because pulling them out is a free action. So if you still put it at 5k, 1500 shurikens should be more then enough. if it isn't... I want to know what you are using them for. |
| sineous blackspell04-13-07, 11:15 AM | a belt of many pouches and the quickdraw feat would make more sense i wouldnt want a pc getting ahold of some magic item like that! |
| Zuractai04-13-07, 12:16 PM | you could even have the gloves take a swift action without the quick draw feat (Limiting it to one/round) and a free action with the Quick Draw Feat (As many as you have attacks/round.) Items that stored them shouldn't cause to many problems, since you still need to buy the Shurikens, any poison you wanted, etc. |
| Darth Sephiroth04-14-07, 08:39 AM | That's what I was aiming for, you can stash as many as you have with Shurikens without worry about them being hard to get ahold of to use. As a Swift action (free with Quickdraw) would be a very nice thing because for a Ninja Shurikens are pretty much one of your best toys once you gain poison use |
| Yalon04-14-07, 09:36 AM | Shuriken are already a free action to draw, so you don't need quick draw. Or, it seems, this sort of magic item. |
| Fallenangel35904-14-07, 12:13 PM | Yeah... no quick draw required :P Shurikens count as ammo Which is nice because enhancing them goes by the 50s |
