I remember reading it somewhere, but where (if I actually read it correctly) is there a spellstoring ability you can add to arrows? Like being able to as you get read to shot the arrow, imbed a spell into it, then fire.. or even if having to wait a turn to fire that is fine, I just want to imbed a spell, and I think arcane archers has it, but do any others? |
| Wolf7207-30-06, 07:13 PM | 1st: sure are! ... if you add flaming to the bow, any arrow launched becomes a flaming arrow. If you had shock arrows and a flaming bow, when you launch you'll have a flaming-shock arrow. *pause while wolf checks SRD to make sure he's still current w/ 3.5 rules* Bows, crossbows, and slings so crafted bestow the X power upon their ammunition. [edited by Wolf72: X=enchantement] 2nd: yes, it seems there is ... Spell Storing: A spell storing weapon allows a spellcaster to store a single targeted spell of up to 3rd level in the weapon. (The spell must have a casting time of 1 standard action.) Any time the weapon strikes a creature and the creature takes damage from it, the weapon can immediately cast the spell on that creature as a free action if the wielder desires. (This special ability is an exception to the general rule that casting a spell from an item takes at least as long as casting that spell normally.) Once the spell has been cast from the weapon, a spellcaster can cast any other targeted spell of up to 3rd level into it. The weapon magically imparts to the wielder the name of the spell currently stored within it. A randomly rolled spell storing weapon has a 50% chance to have a spell stored in it already. Strong evocation (plus aura of stored spell); CL 12th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, creator must be a caster of at least 12th level; Price +1 bonus. |

| Mentalmegabody07-31-06, 02:48 AM | Add serren to your bow (Book of Exalted Deeds, non-magical ghost touch), make it elven craft (gives you attacks of opportunity, works as quarterstaff(longbow) or club(shortbow), AoOs work even if you last used the ranged option, not the melee) and make your arrows adamantine with no affect to your enhancement price (+1 or +3 for example). And take a look at that Guardian Bow from Arms and Equipment Guide, I'll guarantee you'll like it! Farewell. |

Should be ... here's two links you should definitely put into your favorites/bookmarks: Hypertext d20 (http://www.d20srd.org/) and Online SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html) (my personal preference) anecdote: My bachelor party was me, my brother and our two best freinds (brothers also) growing up ... we played DnD for the better part of an entire day ... being older and busy, we barely knew the 3.5 rules ... but with wi-fi and the online SRD necessary info was right at our fingertips. |

I remember reading it somewhere, but where (if I actually read it correctly) is there a spellstoring ability you can add to arrows? Like being able to as you get read to shot the arrow, imbed a spell into it, then fire.. The Arcane Archer prestige class (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/arcaneArcher.htm) can do this. Spell-storing arrows could be another way to do this, however note that this is subject to interpretation. Some DM's may view the fact that spell-storing not being on the ranged weapon random generation table as an indication that it cannot be placed on ammo (however that viewpoint has be thoroughly discussed and appears to be incorrect). There is also the fact that spell-storing arrows would be unbalanced compared to the pricing of other one-shot items. This is true, but likely may not be a problem in long running games where one-shot items can be underpowered for their price anyway. Lastly there is the issue that spell-storing says it can "cast the spell on that creature as a free action if the wielder desires". Some DM's might consider a launched arrow (or thrown weapon, like a spell-storing dagger) as no longer being wielded (so you couldn't decide to activate the spell). Ask your DM. Spell-storing arrows can be fun, but could also be abused. |
