| WinDReiN12-10-06, 11:57 AM | Is there any penalty if you shoot at smn who's right next to you? Is there a feat to remove the penalty? |
| sleepydeath12-10-06, 11:59 AM | the one next to you get an AOO... Order of the Bow Initiate prc removes this |
| Jay_Ibero_91112-10-06, 11:59 AM | There's no attack penalty, however you do provoke an attack of opportunity for using a ranged weapon in melee, unless you have a special ability that says otherwise... |
| draconic_swine12-10-06, 01:10 PM | Remember that you provoke an AoO for each attack you make, not just one per round if you full attack. Also, you provoke an AoO from each person who threatens you, not just the one you're shooting. |
| Fallenangel35912-10-06, 05:57 PM | also remember, that if they don't have combat reflexes, they can only make one attack of opprotunity per round |
| wonlee7612-10-06, 08:35 PM | There's an epic feat to remove this penalty and the Order of the BOw Initiate. That's about it as far as I know for removing the chance of an AoO against you. The simpler solution is to take a 5 foot step away from your opponent and hope he doesn't have reach. |
| draconic_swine12-10-06, 09:40 PM | If the opponent has reach, you're best off staying five feet away anyway (assuming they don't have a way to attack adjacent opponents). |
| Kolsus_Hayl12-11-06, 12:45 AM | There is a basic feat that prevents AoO from ranged attacks. Can't remember name or place, but I'm certain. I know, big help that is. |
| Osedox12-11-06, 01:55 AM | Arrowmind, its a very handy spell in the SpC which is a Ranger1, Sor/Wiz1 spell which allows you to make attacks of opportunity with your bow like it were a melee weapon, and also lets you fire your bow in melee without provoking attacks of opportunity. It also has an immediate action casting time. I likkke! |
| Qube12-11-06, 02:16 AM | also remember, that if they don't have combat reflexes, they can only make one attack of opprotunity per round and, even with combat reflexes, they can onlky make 1 AoO agains YOU per round (combat reflexes gives you the ability to make AoO's agains multiple oppontnent) |
| Plothos12-11-06, 03:47 AM | and, even with combat reflexes, they can onlky make 1 AoO agains YOU per round (combat reflexes gives you the ability to make AoO's agains multiple oppontnent) Nope. From the SRD: Combat Reflexes and Additional Attacks of Opportunity If you have the Combat Reflexes feat you can add your Dexterity modifier to the number of attacks of opportunity you can make in a round. This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity, but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity). Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn’t count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. All these attacks are at your full normal attack bonus. The only limit on getting added AoO's against a single opponent is the movement thing. Moving counts as a single opening, even if they prance around you like a drunk monkey. But each attack in a full attack would arguably be considered a separate opportunity, and thus each would provoke. You could argue that the full attack itself represents a single opportunity, but this is a strain, IMO. They have to specifically make an exception for movement, because, otherwise every time they left a square you threatened they'd provoke. In any event, there's certainly no 1-per-round-per-opponent limit. |
| festerday12-11-06, 08:09 AM | IMO Plothos is right. In "Races of the Wild" there is the Defensive Archery feat which could be useful. |
| daponz12-11-06, 10:52 AM | I think that an opportunity is best described as a defined action that provokes an AOO. eg: Fighter A attacks with bow and chooses the attack option. An attack option with a bow is an opportunity. Thus Fighter B gets 1 AOO. But if Fighter A decides to run past Fighter B, then with Combat Reflexes, Fighter B gets another AOO. Without combat reflexes he would have had only one. But this is already been covered in AOO threads. |
