Bow Proficiency [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-03-07, 07:16 PM Is there any magic item besides a Gauntlet of Archery or Lesser Gauntlet of Archery that grants proficiency with a bow?

i'm looking for something under 5,000gp to get proficiency with the bow so that i can use the gauntlet for its +1 to hit. I'm trying to upgrade my halfling artificer's arsenal so he's more useful than a 1d3 attack once his infusions run out.

Aside from that, if you want proficiency with the bow, you either need to take Martial Weapon Proficiency (longbow) which has no prerequisites, take one level in fighter, barbarian, paladin, ranger, psychic warrior, hexblade, samurai, swashbuckler, or crusader, or play an elf.

If you can figure out a way to make an item that grants you one of those things, more power to you.

Aside from that, if you want proficiency with the bow, you either need to take Martial Weapon Proficiency (longbow) which has no prerequisites, take one level in fighter, barbarian, paladin, ranger, psychic warrior, hexblade, samurai, swashbuckler, or crusader, or play an elf.

If you can figure out a way to make an item that grants you one of those things, more power to you.

Or take the War domain from a deity with the longbow as their favored weapon.

Edit: Actually, you CAN enchant an item to grant profiency in its use. It is the Skillful Enhancement, found in Complete Arcane, granting free proficiency and up to 3/4 bab, unless your bab is already better. It is a +2 enhancement, though, so the earliest you could purchase this would be when you have access to +3 weapons.
