I need some clarification on magical bows and arrows. I have read the descriptions and info in the PHB and DMG but my DM has a different view. So what I need to know is:

Do these different combinations of bows and arrows apply to attack or to damage or to both?

If a bow is magical say +1 and I am using normal arrows does the +1 add to attack or damage or both?

Non-magical bow and +1 arrow?

+1 strength bow and normal arrow?

+1 Magic/+1 Strength and normal arrow?

+1 Strength bow and +1 arrow?

Sorry if this has been answered but I could not find a way to search the forums. I probably over-looked it :embarrass

Thanks for any help given to clarify these different situations.

Both

Non-magical bow and +1 arrow?

Both

+1 strength bow and normal arrow?

+1 Damage (strength)

+1 Magic/+1 Strength and normal arrow?

+1 to hit (magic) and +2 to damage (magic & strength)

+1 Strength bow and +1 arrow?

Same as above.

*edit*

Elgonn beat me to it, and I'm sure he's probably correct, and I was wrong.

I'd like to clarify that my answers were 3.5. It did work differently in 3.0.

What ruleset OP?

Also, while obvious, it should also be pointed out that +1 strength (also called Mighty +1), only works if your strength is at least a 12.

If you are a whimpy halfling with strength of 11, you don't get the +1 to damage.

Sorry we are using 3.5 rules. And thank you very much for your quick reply. :D We are gaming tomorrow and now I can clarify the issue.

In fact you gain a wonderful -2 to hit as well. Poor halfling.

Thanks Tarkin I appreciate that info as well. My character has a strength of 16 so there is no problem.

I just wanted to make the examples as simple as possible.

In 3.5, enchantments to bows and arrows overlap. So your +1 arrow from a +1 bow is still only +1 to hit/damage. But a +1 flaming arrow fired from a +3 shocking bow is a +3 flaming shocking arrow.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason there's no FAQ for this board?

This question or some version thereof is asked just about every other day.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason there's no FAQ for this board?

Because no-one has taken the time to write one?
Because WoTC has an offical FAQ on their website for download?

Those are my guesses, but i wondered the same thing...
