| EyelessBeholder07-11-07, 03:15 PM | Alright im running a fighter archer , and am having some trouble with all my stacks on damage and to hit. Im level 3 I have 15 str 18 dex Feats are weapon focus, point blank shot, presice shot, rapid shot I have a +1 Composite long bow (2) of frost. Also i have gotten Bane , elf arrows. When i shoot my arrows the frost bow makes them 1d8 +1 damage Then add my str moddifier +2 Then add my weapon point blank shot if appliciable +1 And if i used elf bane arrows i add the 2d6 on top of all this right? BAsically im just asking what stacks and dosent stack in this concept , the arrows fired from bow are frost arrows and are +1 to damage right? |

If you used the bane arrow to hit an elf, you'd get an extra +2d6 on top of your regular shot. The enhancement bonuses from the bane arrows and the bow wouldn't stack, only the higher of the two would apply. |
| tarkin07-11-07, 04:38 PM | Also I assume by " Composite long bow (2)" you meant a Composite Bow that is Mighty, capable of applying your +2 strength bonus to damage. |

BAsically im just asking what stacks and dosent stack in this concept , the arrows fired from bow are frost arrows and are +1 to damage right? Bows provide their enchantments to the arrows fired from them. A normal arrow would effectively be a +1 Frost arrow when fired from that bow. A Bane arrow would effectively be a +1 Frost Bane arrow. The +1 built into the arrow to make it enchanted with Bane is the same as what the bow has (enhancement bonus to attack and damage) so they do not stack. By the way, Frost does 1d6 damage, not 1d8. Against a non-elf, you would deal 1d8 (bow) + 1(enhancement bonus) + 2 (STR bonus) + 1d6 (frost). Against an elf, you would do an additional 2d6 damage from Bane, and 1 more point of damage from the effective +2 total enhancement bonus the arrows have against elves (the bow is already +1, so you can only use the overage of 1). Point Blank Shot adds 1 point of damage whenever you are within range. You didn't ask this, but your to-hit bonus against non-elves would be: +1 (bow) + 1 (Weapon Focus) + 4 (Dex) for a total of +6, which is added to whatever your BAB is. You would get an additional +1 to hit (and damage) if you were within 30ft of your target from Point Blank Shot. If you were attacking an elf though, you would get an additional +1 to-hit and damage on top of that from the Bane property. This is also an enhancement bonus, so if you enchanted your bow to be +2, then you would not change your to-hit bonus or damage against elves (the 2d6 bane would still apply). |
| robitusinz07-11-07, 04:44 PM | By the way, Frost does 1d6 damage, not 1d8. Now that I realize it, the damage is actually 1d8+1(enh)+2(str)+1d6(cold), with an optional +1 from Point Blank Shot. |
| tvar107-11-07, 05:37 PM | Actually, the Bane property give you an additional +2 to hit/damage on elves. Since both your bow and bane arrows are already +1, when you hit an elf your arrows act as +3. Which is 2 more than the +1 you were already using. |
| Loki565407-11-07, 05:40 PM | Also I assume by " Composite long bow (2)" you meant a Composite Bow that is Mighty, capable of applying your +2 strength bonus to damage. The concept of "Mighty" was dropped in 3.5. Now they are just "composite". |
| Kouk07-11-07, 10:26 PM | The concept of "Mighty" was dropped in 3.5. Now they are just "composite". That's not true,The default composite longbow requires a Strength modifier of +0 or higher to use with proficiency. A composite longbow can be made with a high strength rating to take advantage of an above-average Strength score; this feature allows you to add your Strength bonus to damage, up to the maximum bonus indicated for the bow. Each point of Strength bonus granted by the bow adds 100 gp to its cost. they just got rid of the word "mighty" and replaced it with the ever-so-much-more-elegant "made with a high strength rating". And it looks like Bane is actually 2 more than its default bonus, so it would be +2 to hit and +2 to damage when using a just +1 bow. So, until your bow is +3 or better by itself, then bane arrows will give a bonus to both to-hit and damage. |
| Loki565407-12-07, 02:16 AM | That's not true, Yes, it is. In 3.5 there is no longer such a thing as a "mighty" bow. Now there are just normal bows (which have no strength rating) and composite bows (which have a stength rating of +0 or higher) which cannot be used proficiently by anyone with a strength bonus of -1 or less. Since all composite bows are by default "mighty" and you cannot make normal bows "mighty", the naming convention of "mighty" was dropped from 3.5 and its mechanics were merged with "composite". |

Most people I know often still refer to a bow with a high strength rating as "Mighty +X" anyway. It is easier to say and gets the point across. I'm not sure why they dropped it for 3.5. |
| Loki565407-12-07, 01:11 PM | If you actually took the time to finish reading his post, he said the exact same thing, in fewer words. No, not really. Kouk said they dropped mighty and replaced it with (in his words) "the ever-so-much-more-elegant 'made with a high strength rating'". I'm saying that the "mighty" mechanics were merged into the "composite" mechanics and they are just called "composite" now. There is a difference and that is the point I was making. I've made that point, so I'm done here. |
