| PerennialRook04-11-08, 01:23 PM | Bracer of Shadow Conjuration This void black leather bracer is configured to conceal five shuriken in hidden pockets. When the wearer draws from an empty pouch, a magically enhanced shadowsteel shuriken appears in the pocket as it is drawn. These shuriken disappear at the end of the round and are otherwise treated as a normal magic weapon. Enhancement bonuses above +1 may be exchanged for magic weapon properties of equal value, as a magic weapon. Also, the bracer also grants +1 caster level to any illusion (shadow) spell cast by the wearer. Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest, shadow conjuration; Price 3,800 gp (+1), 9,800 (+2), 19,800 (+3), 33,800 (+4), 51,800 (+5), 73,800 (+6), 99,800 (+7), 129,800 (+8), 163,800 (+9), 201,800 (+10); Weight 2 lb. These bracers are a special item affiliated with high level seditionists (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1015633). For the cost, I added the cost of a quiver of ehlonna to the price of a magic weapon (since shuriken are treated as ammunition). |
| Black Mantha04-12-08, 11:30 AM | - They probably should be more expensive. You didn't account for the huge flexibility if gives. In fact, you should probably limit it to one special ability it might add to the weapon. Imagine that you see an orc and can immediately make a holy, anarchic, orc bane suriken. +6d6+2 damage! - What is shadowsteel? If it provides a significant bonus, you might want to boost the price. - You should remind that +6 or higher enhancement bonuses are not possible pre-epic. - And lastly, add a bit for the CL bonus. It might seem limited, but it can be quite useful for the right character. Ever heard of the killer gnome build? |

Thank you for replying. :D I didn't clarify a few things, so I appreciate you pointing them out. The item is enhanced the same way a weapon is (no switching around the enhancements to make holy, anarchic, orc bane shuriken :(). Shadowsteel is just a fancy term for steel conjured from shadow, and has no special benefits. To counteract the CL bonus benefit (which is rather specific), would it be balanced to add a -1 to attack and damage rolls if the target is in daylight or in the radius of a light spell of 3th level or greater? |

That seems fair. But be prepared some might want the +1 bracers, and never use the shurikens. Let's see, an orange ioun stone gives +1 CL and costs 30k. Make it a slotted item, and that becomes 15k. Restrict it to such a specific purpose, and you might get away to making it 4k. That's still more than your +1 bracers. Not game-breakingly so, though (the monk's belt is worse). One of the major limiting aspects is that few characters use both shadow magic and exotic weapons. |
