I recall reading in a sidebar somewhere that bracers could be enchanted as both armour and weapons.

Can anyone tell me if they know of the book that that information couls be found in?

The only such thing I'd ever seen was the sidebar in the Arms and Equipment Guide. That mentioned nothing about weapons, merely that bracers of armor could potentially be given armor enhancements in addition to providing an armor bonus to AC.

Yeah, if you can't use a buckler as a weapon, I don't see why you'd be able to use bracers that way.

Techincally there are some special buckler hields that can be used as a weapon, see the Dwarven Buckler Axe.

Similarly, I could see a specail kind of Bracers designed to be a weapon as well as armor, but not a generic one.

Such bracers would be an Exotic Weapon .. no?

I would see them as the bladed bracers from Batman Begins. Though he used them completely for defense ..and ultimately to sunder, but never really attacked with them.

They would be interesting, though I don't see them as a primary weapon. I could also see them as being a 'monk' weapon.

You could also simply say that these bracers are “normal” weapons that strap to the forearm, something like a punching dagger, but if they simultaneously count as bracers they would have to be exotic weapons, wouldn't they?

On this same idea, if your hands where free to hold say a sword or even a two handed weapon, how would the combat mechanic work. It would seem logical that you would have to choose which to make your attack with on each arm. The bracer or the sword.

It would depend on just how 'exotic' you were wanting to make it.

It could be something as simple as, the bracers give you a +1 shield AC - and could be enchanted as a shield.

It could also be something as unique as:

Exotic Shields (AC Bonus) (Max Dex) (AC Penalty) (Spell Failure) (Damage)
Brace Razors 1 -- -- -- 1d8*

Special: Normaly you are not able to attack with your Brace Razors; however, when you are attacked with a slashing or piercing weapon, make a Reflex save vs. the opponent's modified attack roll. If your save succeeds, you recieve an AoO to sunder the opponent's weapon with your Brace Razors. This is a special sunder attempt that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

You may use this ability once per round, and only a number of times equal to your dexterity modifier per encounter.

I have personally never heard of bracers being used as weapons, although I'm sure you can use them as weapons like you would use a shield bash.
The only thing of the like I have seen, is in the first couple pages of the Arms and Equipment guide, there is a weapon called a Claw Bracer, which is a bracer with three blades extending off the front of the bracer. This makes a good weapon for wizards or classes that need to make somantic components for a spell.
The specifications for the weapon elude me at the moment, but the stats should be somewhere.

Claw Bracers. I think they are in Sword and Fist, and probably in Arms and Equipment guide.
