Can anyone attempt to rationalize the price of this item?

25000 seems very steep for a mere +2 to attack/+1 to damage, let alone simple proficiency with bows. By 8th level, when a characters total wealth should equal about 27k, it seems like an awful waste of money considering the fact that magical bows and gloves of dex can recreate the effect for 6k.

I'm making a pistol-wielding character, and I wanted to have "Bracers of Gunnery" in an effort to up my damage, but it just seems like such a waste of money.

+2 to attack, +1 to damage, and proficiency

That stacks with everything on your weapon, and all your feats. That's beyond good. It's like buying a greater weapon focus... but better, because it doesn't even matter what you're using. Pick up some new bow, and you still have it.

the +2 to hit is nice, but i personally perfer something else for my bracers slot...like armor, depending on how high my dex is. Archers tend to get fairly insane to hit modifiers anyways. The +1 damage isn't much, +5 damage/round if every arrow hits... meh.

I think unless you have trouble hitting something, or get somethign akin to ranged power attack, don't bother buying them... upgrade your bow or armor.

well, seeing as you can have those bracers, a +5 ammo, and greater specialization all stack on it, yeah its a nice item. +10 to each arrow in damage alone there. not to mention improved weapon focus is a +9 alone in to hit. and this is before all the add-ons to the bow.

and even if not, you can give them to your wizard, and he'll rock the boat with em, as he picks up the fighters composite long bow, casts bulls strength on himself so he can pull it, and wails on the enemy!

Indeed I always took them for a Magic item for non-proficient PC's... when your wizard is just plain out of spells and his wands have dried up... give him this and a bow.

i like the sound of this item. the group i currently DM for is a bit overpowered, except for the ranger (archer). this would really help him get on the same level as the other party members. i think ill drop this in the campaign during the next session.

I can't see how gloves of dexterity can replicate the same effect as proficiency or +2/+1 hit/damage.

I know what you mean though, this item does seem a bit over priced. But believe me, at high levels, you are scratching for every bonus to damage and these braciers are a steal at high level. The 25 kay price means that it isn't for level 8 characters.

The item is well worth the price. It is one of the things that make archery worth it.

Yes, Gloves +4 for 16,000 is a better deal.

But if you already have Gloves +2 for 4,000 gp, I would rather get bracers of Greater Archery for 25,000 then upgrade my Gloves from +2 to +6 for 32,000 gp.
