| vagabonvoid12-21-06, 12:47 PM | Just a question. i have a character with a breastplate and +4bracers of armor. Do Bracers of armor stack with normal armor. I say they do because the BOA create a magical effect like Mage armor. Same question about rings of protection, do they stack with regular armor? A few people I have ran into say they don' stack, that the bracers of armor are just another form of armor. I just want this clarified for me. |
| mvincent12-21-06, 12:49 PM | Do Bracers of armor stack with normal armor. No. They both provide an "Armor" bonus. Like named bonuses do not stack. Same question about rings of protection, do they stack with regular armor?Rings of protection provide a "Deflection" bonus, so they would stack with an "Armor" bonus (but not with another "Deflection" bonus). |
| sidekick12-21-06, 12:52 PM | Both Bracers of Armour and actual Armour bestow an Armour Bonus to AC. Thus they do not stack. They only type of [core] bonus to AC that stacks are Dodge Bonuses. However wearing both can be of use against incorpreal creatures. As the Bracers of Armour (and mage armour the spell they're absed off) are force effects creatures such as Wights don't bypass their bonuses to AC. or Short answer = they don't stack!! |
| vagabonvoid12-21-06, 12:55 PM | thank you |
| ShinAkuma212-21-06, 01:11 PM | I say they do because the BOA create a magical effect like Mage armor. Ironically, this is correct, but does nothing for your position. Mage Armor doesn't stack with regular armor, either. |
| Euch12-21-06, 01:32 PM | a related question... I know bracers give armor bonus like normal armor, but does it stack with armor ENHANCEMENT bonus? meaning, lets say I got bracers of armor +5 and chainshirt +5. do I have +10 to AC or +6 (since the chain shirt is higher then the +5 of the bracers) |
| mvincent12-21-06, 01:34 PM | a related question... I know bracers give armor bonus like normal armor, but does it stack with armor ENHANCEMENT bonus? meaning, lets say I got bracers of armor +5 and chainshirt +5. do I have +10 to AC or +6 (since the chain shirt is higher then the +5 of the bracers)No. The "enhancement" bonus is to the chain shirt (not to you). It increases its (and only its) armor bonus. The shirt then provides you with an increased "Armor" bonus. On the plus side, this means that you could have enhanced armor, enhanced shield, and enhanced natural armor without worried about the enhancement bonuses not stacking. |
| Euch12-21-06, 01:48 PM | ok... how about me casting "magic vastement" on myself? |
| mvincent12-21-06, 01:56 PM | ok... how about me casting "magic vastement" on myself? You cannot. Magic Vestment (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/magicVestment.htm) reads: "Target: Armor or shield touched" Creatures (like yourself) are not valid targets. |
| tarkin12-21-06, 02:00 PM | Magical Vestament provides an enhancment bonus to the armor you are already wearing. It will not stack with any other enhancment bonus your armor has, but otherwise will work. I.E. If you have non-magical Chainmail, Magic Vestament might make it count as +2 Chainmail. If you have +5 Chainmail already on, Magic Vestament will not help you in any way. |
| Richmud12-21-06, 02:00 PM | ok... how about me casting "magic vastement" on myself? You can't the target line of magic vestments reads: Target: Armor or shield touched And must therefor can't be cast on you |
| Euch12-21-06, 02:17 PM | by "myself" I was talking of a shirt or alike... (since it counts as a +0 armor ac for the purpose of this magic) but after rereading mvincent's answer explains why it still wont do... thanks anyway :) |
| mvincent12-21-06, 02:24 PM | by "myself" I was talking of a shirt or alikeThat is allowed as the spell (http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving.php?destination=http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/magicVestment.htm) says "An outfit of regular clothing counts as armor that grants no AC bonus for the purpose of this spell" However, the result would be clothing that grants an "armor" bonus, and again would not stack with other "armor" bonuses. |
| Nezkrul12-21-06, 02:47 PM | the only "stacking" effect you can get from bracers of armor and normal armor is if your DM allows bracers of armor to have special abilities put on them like normal magic armor. Special abilities always work, regardless of their source, since they aren't a "bonus". For instance, you could have bracers of armor +5 of heavy fortification, and soulfire nimble mithiral breastplate +5; benefiting from soulfire, nimble, and heavy fortification. |
