I need help figuring out how much a pair of bracers that confer a +2 luck bonus to attack and damage rolls, skill/ability checks, saving throws, and AC.

Before anyone flips a lid, I only want to know so that i can bring it up with my DM and see if he allows it. I need a price to go with the item in order for him to make a decision.

Technically speaking this item would work like a Belt of Magnificence, giving a +4 bonus to all Ability Scores...but the bonus from this item, since it is a luck bonus, would stack with that of any enhancement bonus.

If it ends up being an epic item, that's fine...our campaign is supposed to run through level 22.

I tried to calculate based on what is in the DMG, but they don't give what an alternate bonus on skill check would be, or what it would if you got a bonus on attack and damage rolls, other than weapon enhancement...which this clearly isn't.

Here's what I'd use:

+2 to Attack and damage = +2 weapon (8000gp)
+2 to Skill checks, Ability checks, and Saving Throws = Stone of Good Luck x2 (40,000gp)
+2 to AC = +2 armor (4000gp)

Now we take into account this:
Multiple Different Abilities
Abilities such as an attack roll bonus or saving throw bonus and a spell-like function are not similar, and their values are simply added together to determine the cost. For items that do take up a space on a character’s body each additional power not only has no discount but instead has a 50% increase in price.
So we multiply the Attack/Damage and AC elements by 1.5 (12,000gp and 6000gp respectively)

Plus I believe this falls under the "uncustomary space limitation", so we multiply the entire thing by 1.5 (58,000 x 1.5 = 87,000).

So I get at least 87,000gp. I'm sure someone who knows Item Creation (and has had more sleep) can come up with a more accurate number.

Thanks for you input.

It seems about right...unless there is someone out there who thinks differently.

I usually try not to do this, because of the complicated math involved...I prefer getting items that are already figured out. But in this case I want something different.

Would it still be x1.5 if you made the item take up both the Gauntlet and Bracer slots?

And how much would it cost to add slots like in A&EG that allow the wearer to benefit from an Ioun stone without having it float around?

I think the item in the A&EG was an Iounblade...a dagger, but since gauntlets are weapons too, it should be about the same...I figure it would be a base of 4,000 gp to be able to do this.

Not really. If you had two separate items, one of which was a pair of gloves that granted just the luck bonus to AC, and one of which was just a pair of bracers that granted just the luck bonus to skill checks and saves, and one of which was just a pair of gloves that granted just the luck bonus to AC, attack and damage, I'd still say that you have to multiply both items by 1.5 to correct for the mis-slotting.

Although you could make an argument that if you did make them into two separate items, making the bracer item hold all the combat-related bonuses -- AC, attack and damage -- counts as the "combat" affinity for the bracers, so the bracers don't cost extra. However, bracers (combat), bracelets (allies), gloves (quickness), and gauntlets (destruction) all have nothing to do with the idea of bonuses to saves and skill checks, not unless you stretch it really hard.

I'm just going by the DMG, though. These rules, as well as those in A&EG, have largely been obsoleted by the new rules in Magic Item Compendium, which I should really find and take a look at ASAP, because it sounds awesome.

Bracers that provide a +2 luck bonus to attack and damage should not be +8000.

They can stack with a +2 weapon. in fact, they stack with ALL your weapons. If you fight TWF, it applies to both. If you have four arms and are using multi-weapon, then it would apply to all four of your attacks.

+2 luck to attack and damage should be 3x the price of a _2 weapon, or 24,000 gp.

This is based on the pricing for the Amulet of Mighty fists.

I would not multiply it by the x1.5 for uncustomary, I would let that slide.

The only reason I asked about having it not be x1.5 is because it is a pair of items that take up both the gauntlet/glove and bracer/bracelet slots...It's not a pair of gauntlets and a pair of bracers; they would be like Greater Gauntlets...extending all the way up to the elbow.

The 24,000 for the +2 to hit and damage makes sense, based on the fact it applies to all your weapons...already magic or otherwise.

I need help figuring out how much a pair of bracers that confer a +2 luck bonus to attack and damage rolls, skill/ability checks, saving throws, and AC.

Lots of stuff there!

Well, I guess starting with luck being bonus squared*2500gp each part would be 10,000gp.

With about 5 parts that would be 10kgp+1.5*4*10kgp = 70kgp.
With about 6 parts that would be 10kgp+1.5*5*10kgp = 85kgp.

That is not unreasonable really, depending on how you count them.

I could also see making the arguement for reduction of costs because you cannot use them all at the same time. Shooting from the hip I get:

10kgp +0.75*1.5*2*10kgp+0.5*1.5*2*10kgp = 47.5kgp
10kgp +0.75*1.5*2*10kgp+0.5*1.5*3*10kgp = 55kgp
10kgp +0.75*1.5*3*10kgp+0.5*1.5*2*10kgp = 58.75kgp

A luckstone gives a +1 luck bonus to saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks. It costs 20kgp but is slotless.

If you double that to get this item and then make it slotted that would be 20kgp for a +1 luck bonus to all of them. If we treat this as bonus squared*20kgp for the bonuses then the total for a +2 item is 80kgp.

This item does give a lot of bonuses with a normally less used bonus type. I would likely be happy to go with something between 70k and 80k.

Of course then there is also the standard of heroism (complete warrior) which grants you and your allies within 30' a +2 morale bonus to attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for 40k.

So maybe in the end I would go for 66kgp.

Remeber, the item I want to make takes up 2 Body Slots, Gantlets and Bracers.

I found it to be 70,000 gp the first time I calculated it too.

And I also have thought about combing this item with something like the gloves from ToB that grant the use of Shadow Hand maneuvers...that will probably add more to the total price.

And don't forget the sockets to put Ioun Stones in...as a pair, up to 2 Ioun Stones could be held...the wearer would gain the benefit of the Stone.
