| Fair_Player01-07-07, 06:00 AM | Im a wizard on a drow campain and I was woundering if u could use braces of armor to gain armor and use a robe to gain heavy fortification and other special abilities just like if u had a armor?.. My DM told me that u could only have 1 armor based item and if u had bracers and robe that would be 2.. But if my robe don't give me any armor would it still be an armor based item? :detect: |
| Potato Weasel01-07-07, 08:35 AM | In the arms and equipment guide theres a system for enhancing bracers of armor the same way you enhance armor (the ability to add resistances and such) the pricing is exactly the same, and it translates directly from 3.0. Hopefully this will save you a robe slot. |
| ZomB01-07-07, 09:48 AM | You can only benefit from an armor bonus once (as the bracers provide) - they don't stack with other types of armor. To apply fortification to armor it must also have a +1 enhancement bonus so it is a minimum of a +2 cost. Assuming you allow enhancing robes as armor then I see nothing to prevent adding special abilities to it. Though the +1 enhancement bonus is wasted as it wont stack with the bracers. Your DM might be worried you are sidestepping the expensive armor creation rules, and I can see why he might hesitate to allow this. |
| Fallenangel35901-07-07, 11:57 AM | hmm... I know in Dungeons and dragons online, you can enhance robes like armor, provided they are some kind of unique robe (robe of the magi), however it can't have an "enhancement bonus" It didn't unbalance the game any. |
| draconic_swine01-07-07, 01:34 PM | Doesn't the Arms & Equipment Guide limit you to a total bonus of +5 for your "other" enhancements? Anyway, if you're able to get armour special abilities placed on multiple objects, you'd get the benefits of them all, the same as if you used two shields with different abilities. The only thing you can't do is stack AC bonuses. |
| Teydyn01-07-07, 04:34 PM | Doesn't the Arms & Equipment Guide limit you to a total bonus of +5 for your "other" enhancements? IIRC, no. +13 total, with +8 max for AC. +1 AC -> up to +12 non-AC enchantments |
| bondious01-07-07, 06:27 PM | IIRC, no. +13 total, with +8 max for AC. +1 AC -> up to +12 non-AC enchantments I've always been under the impression (and have played it thus) that with Bracers of Armor you can get +1 to +8 as an armor bonus, and up to +5 worth of non-AC special abilities, for a total of a +13 market bonus value. To me it seems kinda unbalanced to be allowed up to +12 of non-AC special abilities on a pair of Bracers of Armor, ESPECIALLY since you're only allowed up to +9 worth of special abilities with a non-epic magical suit of armor. It gives the player with the Bracers more potential abilities packed into one item, and the charcter who wears both Armor AND Bracers gets a bunch of extra abilities, which is kinda excessive, in my opinion. Besides, aren't Bracers of Armor kinda meant to provide a wizard with a potential bonus similar to "+5 light armor", at it's maximum? And with the expanded rules, I'm thinking +5 worth of abilities is all you really need, ESPECIALLY since many abilities are a flat gold piece price. That's my opinion. |
| journeyman77701-07-07, 10:33 PM | Assuming you DM allows robes to be enhanced as armor, yes (this is somewhat questionable rules-wise). The AC bonus is the only part that doesn't stack. If he doesn't allow robes to be treated as armor, just buy masterwork padded armor +1 (heavy fort) instead. You can wear it under normal robes or pay for glamered to get back your old look. |
| Fallenangel35901-08-07, 11:04 AM | you could do it the DDO way, which is no enhancement bonus on robes... which I guess would be cheaper |
