| draconic_swine01-09-07, 02:17 PM | I have a player in my campaign who's interested in using brass knuckles/knuckle dusters for his character, and asked what the stats would be. I'm thinking they should be treated just like a gauntlet (including the AoOs that are provoked with using them), but I don't know a whole lot about them. Does this seem right? |
| Ryu Katsuragi01-09-07, 02:18 PM | Sounds about right to me. Possibly, in following with how d20 Modern uses them, someone who already has Improved Unarmed Strike getting a +1 to damage while using one. |
| RavenDrake01-09-07, 07:04 PM | I would treat them mechanically as being identical to gauntlets for simplicity. It's bascially what they are, a reinforced punching "weapon" that allows you to deal noticable(read "Lethal") damage with an unarmed blow. |
| TheMagister01-09-07, 07:11 PM | Be careful with them, though. A monk player may be setting you up to try to talk you around to letting him continue to use his monk unarmed damage and add the knucks' effects on top of it. Such stuff shouldn't be allowed (in a normal game). If your games are on the high-powered side, go ahead! Be certain that the player that's asking knows that the Knucks are capped at 1d3 damage (for medium wielders), and that a monk wielding them must choose between a vanilla unarmed attack that deals 1d6+str and a Knucks attack that deals 1d3+str+enhancements. TM Thanks for the advice, but don't worry; (1) the character in question is a rogue, and (2) I'm firmly against monks using gauntlets to be able to get weapon enhancements on top of their unarmed strike damage. Thanks also to everyone. I figured it was the best way to handle it, but I wanted to confirm it. |

Actually in D20 Modern, when you have the brawl feat, damage becomes lethal and base damage is upped by one step. I would rule the Brass knuckles as just lethal unarmed strikes whether or not they provoke, I don't know |

| The_Normal_Anomaly01-10-07, 09:32 PM | Weapon Damage Critical DamageType RangeIncrement Size Weight Purchase DC Restriction Brass knuckles 1 20 Bludgeoning — Tiny 1 lb. 5 — Brass Knuckles These pieces of molded metal fit over the outside of a character’s fingers and allow him or her to deal lethal damage with an unarmed strike instead of nonlethal damage. A strike with brass knuckles is otherwise considered an unarmed attack. When used by a character with the Brawl feat, brass knuckles increase the base damage dealt by an unarmed strike by +1 and turn the damage into lethal damage. The cost and weight given are for a single item. I would call it a normal unarmed attack that deals lethal for D&D. Perhaps get an extra +1 to damage with Imp. Unarmed Strike. Exactly out of d20 Modern. |
