I know they would do half damage, but if they could be made to do enough damage, say, by being maximized, could they break the enchanted weapon? Thanks. |
| narack04-07-08, 12:35 PM | Even magic weapon has hardness and hit point. Hardness is bypass by spells it's a damage reduction. Im not sure about the half damage but it could be right, i never really tried. If you would deal enough hit point damage to the weapon it would be destroy. But you need to use the sunder rule to do so. Magic give more hit point and hardness. something like 5 hp per enhancement. |
| mvincent04-07-08, 01:02 PM | Even magic weapon has hardness and hit point. From the DMG errata: "Each +1 of enhancement bonus adds 2 to a weapon’s or shield’s hardness and +10 to its hit points." Hardness is bypass by spells it's a damage reduction. That is incorrect. From the rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#tableCommonArmorWeaponAn dShieldHardnessAndHitPoints): "Whenever an object takes damage, subtract its hardness from the damage." Im not sure about the half damage but it could be rightFrom the rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#tableCommonArmorWeaponAn dShieldHardnessAndHitPoints): "Acid and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects just as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally after a successful hit. Electricity and fire attacks deal half damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the hardness. Cold attacks deal one-quarter damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 4 before applying the hardness." |
| Fireclave04-07-08, 01:15 PM | From the rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#tableCommonArmorWeaponAn dShieldHardnessAndHitPoints): "Acid and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects just as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally after a successful hit. Electricity and fire attacks deal half damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the hardness. Cold attacks deal one-quarter damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 4 before applying the hardness." And just to further clarify this passage (since it's not worded as clearly as it could be), acid and sonic damage must still overcome hardness. This passage explains that they merely aren't reduced before applying hardness. |

| Fireclave04-07-08, 05:45 PM | You got it right. Sundering a Carried or Worn Object You don’t use an opposed attack roll to damage a carried or worn object. Instead, just make an attack roll against the object’s AC. A carried or worn object’s AC is equal to 10 + its size modifier + the Dexterity modifier of the carrying or wearing character. Attacking a carried or worn object provokes an attack of opportunity just as attacking a held object does. To attempt to snatch away an item worn by a defender rather than damage it, see Disarm. You can’t sunder armor worn by another character. |
