08-24-07, 08:15 PM I recently began equipping an almost Epic level character (18) and as he's a bow specialist I decided to spend the greater majority of his money on outfitting him with as good a bow as possible. So I threw a +5 Enchantment on a Composite Longbow with a +9 Strength rating and then thought 'ooh, Brilliant Energy would make it even more likely that he'll hit!'

And then I stopped and thought 'Can I do that?' I noticed right at the bottom that it says it can be applied to melee, thrown weapons or ammunition. So I'd be paying 112,000GP for a single dagger or 50 arrows that will vanish, as he's a Ranger with a Haste item, pretty quickly.

So if an elemental or elemental burst bow enchants its arrows to do extra damage why doesn't Brilliant Energy do the same thing? Or does it?

08-24-07, 08:21 PM Because you can't put brilliant energy on a bow. So yes, if you want brilliant energy, you need to put it on the ammo.

Oh, and do you have a cleric or a wizard in the party? If so, make that bow +1 and then put other stuff on it (energy burts and collision and such) and have said wizard or cleric cast greater magic weapon on it. Makes for a +5 (4 until CL 20) with +9 other stuff bow.

Might be cheaper to get a scroll of Brillant blade (gives Brillent energy for 1 min/level) and have a Cleric, Druid, or Sorc/Wizard character to use it on 50 arrows.
You can always buy a guy to use it if have none (by Epic level I can't imagine finding a caster somewhere).

Really, this would be a DM's discretion rule. I allow it to apply, though many of my players don't care for BE.

08-25-07, 11:44 AM Brilliant energy is great and everything... but suddenly you're fighting the undead and your beautiful gleaming arrows just fly right through them.

As a perminant enchantment, it's usually a bad idea.

08-25-07, 03:11 PM I've looked over the character list of everyone who has applied so far and no Clerics X.x; I'm thinking this game may end faster than it started, thank god for the Dimensional Door ability of the Horizon Walker and my character having no problem running from a fight he can't win ;) Thanks all for your comments, I've decided to just throw Holy and Bane abilities on the bow instead (my character is a demon hunter basically.)
