I wanted to create a magic item that helps to bring down prismatic barriers. Of course, it's possible to create scrolls with the requisite spells on them (minimum price: 4825gp per set); however, I decided to go for something a bit more stylistic:

Staff of Counter-Prismatic Effects: A silvery metal binds a crystal spearhead to this simple white staff. It allows the use of the following spells:

Magic missle (1 charge)
Gust of wind (1 charge)
Daylight (1 charge)
Dispel magic (1 charge)
Cone of cold (2 charges)
Passwall (2 charges)
Disintegrate (2 charges)

A staff of counter-prismatic effects functions as a +3 spear. This ability persists after all charges have been depleted.
If a staff of counter-prismatic effects with 10 or more charges is used to attack a prismatic barrier, the barrier is automatically destroyed, immediately draining the staff of 10 charges. If the staff was thrown, it drops to the ground below the point where it contacted the barrier. Anyone may use the staff in this way to destroy a prismatic barrier.
Stron varied; CL 12th; Craft Staff, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, cone of cold, daylight, disintegrate, dispel magic, gust of wind, magic missile, passwall; Price: 147,500gp

Whoa - That's a must-have for me. And the idea is so nice and elegant. How could I overlook that one?

Granted you calculated the price right, it seems well-rounded for me. 10 charges for a prismatic wall net you five uses for ~150k gp, that's 30k per wall. Sounds expensive, but in times of strife... And you better not spend that 1 MM charge...
Hm. Maybe you could get a discount if you disallow any use besides negating prismatic walls.
Anyway, this thing rocks :)

That is an excellent concept. Every abjurer on the planet would want to kill their own mother if she had that!

You could probably quarter the "staff" cost if you had it just negate the first five prismatic walls it hit, for a more melee-oriented feel, but I like this version, too.

Thank you. I designed the staff of counter-prismatic effects with the following ideas in mind:

Anyone may use the item to bring down a prismatic barrier.
The item's caster level and price are such that a party could get it just about the time when they might need to use it.
The item is more versatile in the hands of a wizard or sorcerer.

The cost of the automatic effect was calculated separately as a series of single-use items. The final price was 18500gp(cost of the spear, rounded up to the nearest 250gp increment) + 10750gp x CL(cost of the remaining components). I adjusted the minimum caster level to give the item a strong magical aura and to put the price in the range of a 14th level treasure; at 14th level, the party could easily be facing a 15th level caster capable of casting prismatic wall.

Someone capable of accessing the individual spells stored in the staff can generally get through any barrier, magical or mundane, that may present itself.

Additional comments, questions, and especially criticism is appreciated.

Of course, by the rules, you could always just Teleport past the wall.
Seriously. Teleport passes through the Astral Plane. None of the effects of the Wall extend to the Astral. Hence, you can jump around the wall, no fuss, no muss.

Unless of course someone had the foresight to place a dimension lock or dimensional anchor on you prior to placing the prismatic sphere. But dealing with the dimension lock/anchor is still probably the better strategy.
