There are two ways I know of to make this happen automatically, with no choice on the part of the stricken foe: Penetrating shot, from PHBII, and the exit wound weapon ability (+2 bonus, not sure which book it's from). Thus a burrowing arrow from a longbow for a person with that feat, or that enhancement, would strike the target on a successful hit, doing d8 plus mods, then go on through, and do another d8 with no mods except magic pluses-I think. In fact, the exit wound ability states that ammunition goes straight through the target, therefore doing an extra d6 of damage. So, with exit wound and burrowing arrows, you'd be doing d8+d8+d6. Is that broken? Should it be house ruled that "burrowing" is actually more like "barbed", and thus only do extra damage when going against the intended direction? IE, being pulled from the wound, against the direction it entered. |
