Contrary to Begle1, I'd stat it as an improvised quarterstaff, maybe with reduced damage on the brush end. Perhaps 1d6/1d4.

Also, I wouldn't say a broomstick is free. Probably 4 cp or something. Maybe 2 silvers.

Just break off the brush and you have a beautiful quarterstaff or stuff the head in the enemies face to put their eyes out.

Or get a proper weapon and belt them till they cry like little girls then laugh at them.

Still an improvised weapon though.

Actually, that's an interesting point. Clubs and quarterstaves are supposed to be 'free' weapons because you basically cut a bit off a tree and use that. Doesn't that mean they're all improvised weapons? And if not, surely there's no such thing as an improvised club or quarterstaff because _all_ clubs/quarterstaves are just random bits of wood?

I always rule that if a char can use a similar weapon they can use it. Sticks and such as Q'staffs (includeing the shaft of a similar sized weapon), tourches as clubs, ect. Another house rule I like for a Q'staff is you can use it to trip like some reach weapons (tripping with a Q'staff is perfectly normal).

Did you happen to play Magi-Nation? Cause that was a card name.

its actually taken from when Ash(Army of Darkness) described his 12 gauge, double barrel Remington shotgun. "This is my BOOMSTICK!" (at least the the farthest back that i know of, and i assume its where it originated, but i may be wrong

anyway, idk about the broom thing...but why use it as a weapon when you could just fly away on it :rimshot:

Ash definately did not come up with the term "boom-stick."

Do you mean a flying broom skick? That's what I was thinking when I read the title the first time. I know in 3.0 you could get a flying broom but I don't own a 3.5 DMG so I can't help you there.

Ahhh, okay. That makes more sense, heh.

From the SRD:
Broom of Flying
This broom is able to fly through the air as if affected by an overland flight spell (average maneuverability) for up to 9 hours per day (split up as its owner desires). The broom can carry 200 pounds and fly at a speed of 40 feet, or up to 400 pounds at a speed at 30 feet. In addition, the broom can travel alone to any destination named by the owner as long as she has a good idea of the location and layout of that destination. It comes to its owner from as far away as 300 yards when she speaks the command word. The broom of flying has a speed of 40 feet when it has no rider.

Moderate transmutation; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, overland flight, permanency; Price 17,000 gp;Weight 3 lb.

Also from the SRD:
Carpet of Flying
This rug is able to fly through the air as if affected by an overland flight spell of unlimited duration. The size, carrying capacity, and speed of the different carpets of flying are shown on the table below. Beautifully and intricately made, each carpet has its own command word to activate it—if the device is within voice range, the command word activates it, whether the speaker is on the rug or not. The carpet is then controlled by spoken directions.

Size Capacity Speed Weight Market Price
5 ft. by 5 ft. 200 lb. 40 ft. 8 lb. 20,000 gp
5 ft. by 10 ft. 400 lb. 40 ft. 15 lb. 35,000 gp
10 ft. by 10 ft. 800 lb. 40 ft. 10 lb. 60,000 gp

A carpet of flying can carry up to double its capacity, but doing so reduces its speed to 30 feet. It has average maneuverability, but a carpet of flying can still hover.

Moderate transmutation; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, overland flight, permanency.
